Wait, the US has been dethroned as the most obese country on Earth??
by WHO(M)????
I'm calling massive BS on that front.

It would seem you're not uptodate on the latest BMI data, would be nice if you actually knew what you were talking about, before you called "massive BS"

Australia is now the world's most obese nation. |

In any case, that's just one article that I googled and other studies may differ in their findings. |
Actually most medical journals seem to agree with this point.
The only 'article' that seems to disagree with this is probably this one (this one is based on a WHO list of obese nations):
http://www.forbes.com/2007/02/07/worlds-fattest-countries-forbeslife-cx_ls_0208worldfat_2.html
But it's a bit misleading because BMI actually varies depending on ethnicity, with the Asian BMI definition of "normal range" actually being slightly lower then that of Caucasians, which I doubt this article took into consideration. Suffice to say that there's a lot of debate about that particular list in the medical community.

This is an an example of the insanity of products of the U.S. education system; if you disagree with what they have been "taught" you might be a redneck. I realize that her observations may offend your delicate sensibilities.
Generalizations- people live their lives by making generalizations. How about this generalization- almost all suicide bombers are muslim. Is this raciss? |

No. It's historically obtuse. Kamikaze? |

Obesity leads to brain loss. Connection?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090825/sc_livescience/obesepeoplehaveseverebraindegeneration
A new study finds obese people have 8 percent less brain tissue than normal-weight individuals. Their brains look 16 years older than the brains of lean individuals, researchers said today.
Those classified as overweight have 4 percent less brain tissue and their brains appear to have aged prematurely by 8 years.
"That's a big loss of tissue and it depletes your cognitive reserves, putting you at much greater risk of Alzheimer's and other diseases that attack the brain," said Thompson. "But you can greatly reduce your risk for Alzheimer's, if you can eat healthily and keep your weight under control." |

I hear rumors of a show "Chat with Beaus," or the male foreigner version of "Chat with Beauties." It'll be interesting to see a handsome white guy show a photo of his probably overweight and so-so looking Korean girlfriend, a phenomenon I see so much of in Korea. |
I hear that. It's certainly not always the case, but there are still plenty of times I see a white guy and a Korean girl and think 'he could do so much better'.
Especially when me and my gf pass by a mirror, of course. (Please don't let her find out I said that). |

BMI is basically useless, though it'd me more useless in the US where more people lift weights, which renders a BMI reading useless.
I haven't been to Australia, but I'm shocked to say the least. I've seen some fat Aussie tourists but nothing like the morbidly obese specimens you'll find waddling around stateside. |

It's not entirely useless for some things. Sure BMI is skewed if you lift weights, but when you have a population where >50% of the people are "overweight" it can have some statistical meaning. If your physician is using BMI rather than the old fashioned (but once again in Vogue) waist-to-hip ratio to measure your CV risk, then they need to hit the journals again. |
