I get what you're saying but seriously whats the big deal? Jaleousy? They dont like that what they would label ( in their opinion) a loser back home is successful? A geek cant have a pretty girl friend? Is something that has to do with the stereotype that Asian girls subordinate easy to control even for a loser? Im just wondering what drives people to view it that way? Why would it bother them soo much for them to bring it up on tv? do they lose anything if korean girls wants to be with these losers? |
They don't have to lose anything that is the way it works. People who are unhappy find it easier to tear others down than fix their own life. From what I've seen of my korean friends they don't engage in that. They can't even fathom it.
It has nothing to do with a stereotype, and if you think asian girls are subordinate you'll likely get your ass handed to you by the first korea girl you date.
For some reason western society, media, pop culture really likes to tear at anyone who shows a little happiness. Anyone who pretends otherwise is blind.
For all the slagging on Korea and other asian cultures about people "having their place" people in the western world have their place as well, and anyone who tries to step outside that is likely to rub someone the wrong way.
To these "beauties" anyone who they deem ugly and is dating a pretty girl is a "loser" and outside of their place and needs to be told. You can congratulate the show's staff for picking prime examples of western culture.
Certainly there are plenty of people who don't act like that in the west, but that is the way that the society operates and these girls are products of those societies.
for every feel good event you have back home (let's say a show like extreme home makeover) you'll have 10 shows that do nothing but show how petty and rotten those products can be.

YOu know , IM just wondering , where in the timeline of ESL teaching in korea did male teachers become automatic losers in the eyes of foreign girls anyways? It's obviously base on some truth but i sense theres ALOT of hate behind this stereotype of foreign guy with korean girl especially when you hear foreign girls opinions on the matter. Whats the deal? someone must of been real pissed off or jealous at somepoint to propel this idea haha

Nice post. Makes sense.
Just to be clear. I dont think Asian girls are subordinate. I think you missed my point. Thats why i said "stereotype" because it seems to be a point that alot of people bring up when talking about white guys and asian women. I never thought and never will think asian women are subordinate ( i would know im married to one and i get my ass kicked all the time)... |

I see you forgot to quote the original or misunderstoood the content:

I added KeK as it is a blizzard term for LoL and figured it appropriate (ya know the TV channel devoted to Starcraft). I was told repeatedly by Koreans the horrible conditions they must suffer under the evil Japanese thumb of Lotte, when as you mentioned it is a company whose major holder is a Korean Family. I wont comment as to where the money goes, but it is a Korean company no matter what anyone says.
EDIT: It was suppose to be sarcasm, an allusion to how disillusioned the people can be with the popular over the truth. |

The reason im asking is because My wife is korean and by their logic , that automatically puts me in the category of being a white loser english teacher with an asian fetish who couldnt get a job back home or a girlfriend. At first glance thats what most people would think. And no matter what i tell them they probably wouldnt think otherwise when in reality im pretty much the opposite of what the general concensus is by their logic. |
My view on that is this: even if true, so what? I have no problem admitting that I did much better in Korea than back home. That is one of the reasons why am coming back: I will be happier, and that is more important to me than what people think. |

Honestly, I dont let it bother me much lol. Just fascinated on a social level lol. How , when and why did this mentality come into play... Its just interesting....
That being said what bothers me is that i dont fit that stereotype but everyone assumes things that just arent true =p. In my case, ive never been an english teacher and never will be. I have a successful well paying job in canada. I'm married to a korean girl who i met in canada while she was going to university here. I'm not a loser but im also not a very social person ( i choose to stay away from people in most cases haha). I visit korea for a few months every year ( 3 months out of 12 im in korea) for the last 3-4 years. While im in korea i get the weirdest looks from gyopo/foreign girls who look at me like im somekind of loser asian girl rapist =p. I'm pretty average person to , i dont stand out, Im not ugly and im not movie star handsome, i dont have anything about me that would label me as being an ugly loser geek you know the stereotype ( no pimples , im not fat or overweight, i dont wear glasses, i dont dress weird i dress the way my wife dresses me lol, average height about 6' ect..) IN fact i probably get more evil stares from foreign girls than i do from koreans pointing out a waegook. I dont hold it against the koreans for giving weird stares or pointing at me and talking behind my back but The western girls that do it should know better. Not every white guy in korea is an english teacher escaping from being a lonely loser in their home country.
BTW no offence to western girls or anything =p. MOst western girls are awesome. Im just talking about the ones that do think this way/ point out westerners with asian girls and automatically think they'r losers. ie: the ones on the misuda show for example propelling the idea of foreign men being losers. Theres always 2 sides of the story.

I totally know what you mean. Not talking guys or girls, just talking about foreigners, I don't see the big deal when I see a mixed couple. The way I see it, it's a numbers game. Number of white girls vs. number of korean girls, odds are a guy is going to end up with a korean girl. Even with the cultural differences, the numbers are just tooooo high to expect white guys to go around with white girls all the time.
The only time the and idea of "loser asian girl rapist" comes into my head is when you hear these guys talking about how korean women are so great because they are all so tiny and small and all western women are fat. These are the ones who make me worry. |

The netizens are going overboard on this. |
The irony being that I'd bet this thread becomes longer and more virulent than anything the Koreans do.
Seriously, this board is all about going overboard over the most trivial things, so why criticize the Koreans? Moosehead finds that the cost of a month supply of oatmeal is $3 higher than in the U.S., so she throws a 5 page rant calling Koreans a bunch of racists. And of course, look up any post from Wylies99, who is ready to throw a hissy fit over the smallest slight he perceives.

If you stick around long enough, you'll notice that those guys actually hate everyone. If it's not western women, its military guys, or ajoshis, or their co-workers, or their dainty little K-GF who fought with them last night. Insulting people just makes them feel a little better about how miserable their lives are, I think |

Some anonymous Korean blogger supposedly visiting Germany wrote an email asking all Korean netizens to spread the word that this Misuda girl is bad mouthing Koreans.
None of the Korean newspapers even bothered to read the book in question, interview any real people, nor did any investigative journalism. They just copied word for word, what was gossiped in the story. My jaw just dropped when I read this story because they didn't quote any sources other than a malicious chain email. What the hell is wrong with the media in Korea?? This is not even real professional journalism, it's just pure gossip mongering. I feel sorry for that German girl.
Even if everything the gossip says is true, to even think that this even made the story, is much more embarrassing.
Korean journalism is just pathetic as much as japan's.
BTW, her face is just meh. Far from beauty. |

I just had to point out that this isn't true.
Lotte operations in Japan and Korea are separate entities and are incorporated in their respective countries, and pay taxes to respective governments.
In Japan, the Lotte group of companies had advertising campaigns emphasizing its ties to Korea.
and of course the president and CEO is an ethnic Korean |

Am coming back to Korea because most things there are better for me than here at home---chicks, job, housing, etc. That does make me a loser at home? Perhaps; but what of it? I'd rather be in a place where I really enjoy my life. |

I have always found it disturbing that this is the most productive thing they can produce involving foreigners.
Rather than produce shows that illustrate how foreigners are having a positive influence in the country or, just perhaps, how some people here encounter difficult situations, they have a show where they parade a bunch of made up women doing sweet fa. |
Of course, there have been different types of shows involving foreigners and Misuda was a rather new approach as a light-hearted entertainment show. Some expats seem to have a very skewed idea of the show as the only way to know what's happening on it is through a few Korean-speaking expats' watchdog blog entries depending on their own interest. The premise of the show just varies in each episode. On some days, they will just play silly games and talk about the most trivial things. Other days, they have heated discussions on sensitive issues. Since they have established themselves as deeply involved in Korean society, any sincere criticisms they make can easily be digested as truthful concerns and earn compassion. Now, the whole loser comments were quite detrimental and dissapointing. Why would you judge other innocent humans like that.
And again, it is far from "how dare a foreigner writes anything negative about Korea". Some people still seem misled (read my post on page 4).
