|
|
I heard a funny story about the HINI flu llately from my wife. My wife and I had gone out and returned home. There were a couple of first and second grade elementary school kids in the parking lot. They go to one of the elementary schools I work at. I said, "Hello," and went up to our apartment. My wife stayed outside on the front steps of our apartment building to talk with them. Later, when my wife came in, she was smiling about something. I asked her what it was and she said that our three young elementary school neighbors were telling her about how there were 2 fourth grade patients at the local elementary school, which they attend and I work at on Thursdays and Fridays. I replied that I thought they were in the sixth grade, but I had heard the wrong story, apparently. My wife continued to say that those girls were disappointed that only 2 students had caught the HINI flu, so they were praying a third would catch it so the school would shut down for a week. |

While not a personal story, my favorite is Dr. Sanjay Gupta getting H1N1 in Afghanistan... |

My friend went to Thailand for summer vacation. Upon his return he was given a 3 day quarantine period by his principal. During the 3 days he was supposed to watch videos at home and make question sheets and tests for the teachers to use in class. Well, the principal didn't trust him to do the work at home, so she told him he had to come to school and do the work in one of the classsrooms. Then, while he was at the school working on these resources, he noticed one of the Korean teachers was there teaching her classes. He thought this was odd because he had seen her in Thailand when he was on vacation. He asked the principal why he had a "quarantine" and she did not need one. The answer; because she is Korean and ate Kimchi on her vacation, she can not be sick. |

I came in to work sick. one of my third graders asked, "teacher, do you have a cough?" I said no. He then asked cautiously, "do you have a runny nose?" I said no. He thought about that for a minute and then persisted, "do you have a fever?"
I knew he was totally checking me out for swine flu but didn't actually dare accuse me to my face of having it. |

Is this true? I know Koreans are ridiculous about the supposed miracle effects of kimchi, but this is unreal. |

If it is true, it should be put in a sticky about life in Korea. Says it all really.
*slaps forehead repeatedly whilst maintaining a look of utter disbelief*
I mean, how stupid (or brainwashed) can people be? |

There's the old yarn about the perfectly healthy 19 year old kid from my home state that just died from H1N1. |

My gf went into one of her elementary classes, 5th grade I think and they were all stone cold silent. Not speaking a word. It turns out someone had told them that talking spreads the influenza so they all shut up. I wish middle school students were that gullible. |

I came back from the US and went to my summer class with 5 kids. They were poking fun at me and swine flu, yet they all had runny noses and a cough. When I pressed them about this and told my co teacher that I didn't feel safe teaching them in their condition, they got quite grumpy. |

I went to my farewell dinner last night with my co-teachers. A pretty strained affair. Funny thing was, they didn't eat from any of the numerous communal side-dishes. That's the first time I've seen that - and it must be H1N1 related. No worries, though. We all got a heaped pile of kimchi on our plates.
And a bar of soap on a wire appreared in the mens' toilets. It's been there for a month - and nobody appears to be using it, either. (I'm using Detol Hand Wash - I wonder what the rest of the gang are using.) |

A week ago we were told that one of our middle school students had gone to the hospital and tested positive for Swine Flu. Every teacher in the teacher's room ran immediately to the sink and washed their hands and then dried them and then took a huge glob of the anti-bacterial hand wash just in case.
You would have thought they were giving away free won at the sink they hustled so fast. |

I would've said, right to his face, "Well, that's stupid." |

Two stories:
1. The desks in our class are arranged in a horseshoe with my desk at the front. Last week I was sick with a sinus infection and the kids were asking me what was wrong. I told them I had H1N1 and they all immediately moved their desks back as far as they could go where they were squished up against the wall.
2. I was reading the Kids Times for a class I teach and in their "English Letters" section they were talking about H1N1 and how to prevent it. Their suggestion was to wash your hands... and brush your teeth really well 3 times a day. |
