One more thing- do you need to bring your own gi? Or do they (schools in general) give you one when you sign up? |

Most judo schools will let you borrow a gi (Was the case with three seperate gyms I've trained at) but a BJJ gym might require you to buy one. |

At Korea BJJ Academy you can buy a judo gi from the school when you sign up for 50,000 won. If you want a fancy BJJ gi though, you have to buy your own.
There are a few places that sell them, there's an Isami store at Dongguk
Univ. Station http://www.isami-seoul.com/index.php
or there's http://jiujitsu.co.kr but they seem to be out of stock lately.
Or you can order one from a US site like budovideos.com and just pay the ~$30 to fedex it to Korea |

Anyone know if i'll be able to find Muay Thai, Kickboxing or just regular boxing classes in Geumsan, Chungcheonamdo?
I'm anticiapting not, but I really want to start one of those 3. Mainly for the fitness aspect and a new hobby and also so I can defend myself better if I ever need to.
I think there might be classes I could take in nearby Daejon...?
Also, how often do you think a complete and utter beginner such as myself should study / practice / go to classes or whatever per week? I am pretty fit and healthy and do yoga so am flexible too. |

Looking for a Taekkyeon :택견: dojang in Ilsan.
Plenty of signs near my house advertising Taekkyeon however when I go inside, it is empty. |

I have a question about Haedong/Haidong Gumdo: Is it all swordplay or are any close range hand-to-hand/grappling/throwing techniques taught. I'd like to learn this style but still want to get some hand to hand stuff in as well.
Cheers

Is there a place near Shinchon/EWHA stations that has muay thai for beginners? I'm looking to get into a martial art and muay thai has had my interest for a long time. I'm an absolute beginner and I am looking for a school where I can train 3-4x a week. Thanks! |

Misher- I go to a Muay Thai gym in Ahyeon, it is one stop after Ehwa on line 2. I forgot which exit, but find the police station and look up at the fourth floor. You will see K1 and it says Muay Thai in Hangeul. The guy has workable English and had over 100 Muay thai fights. The place is quite small but it has a ring and the essentials. No problem for beginners.
90,000 a month but the first month there is an extra 30,000 fee that all the gyms in Seoul to seem to charge which I don't understand why. |

John Frankl's BJJ team is no longer training at Yonsei but has a new gym in Shinchon. It isn't the easiest place to find. There are classes everyday at 10 AM M-F and also T and Th 8pm. Send me pm if you need directions. |

Paraestra .... ???? .... Came across a gym recently.
I don't know anything about it. Some sort of mixed m.a. originating in Japan....mix of shooto and jiu-jitsu?
If anyone has any experience with it in Korea please let me know.
Thanks |

Paraestra is not a martial art, it's a school in Japan that was started by Yuki Nakai. They teach shooto (which is like vale tudo/MMA), BJJ, and sambo. Actually there's a wikipedia page on them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraestra
I think there are a couple of MMA-type schools in Korea that are affiliated with Paraestra. Where in Korea do you live? |
