Surprised I'm the first Aussie to jump in at this one... 2000KM??? You might find yourself a little south of Brisband. Double it and then add a bit more and you'd be in the right vicinity!!!
PS - my best place? that's a tough one - a tie (can I have one pls?) between Vanuatu and the Philippines.

Kotor, in Montenegro... the most beautiful lovely town I could ever imagine seeing.
Everything about it is a dream.
Or Sarajevo or Mostar. Too powerful for words.
Jeezus, Ive been to 35 countries, and Korea totally is the bottom. Oh well, the job is good.

Fairy Meadow- Gilgit, Pakistan. Walking to the basecamp of Nanga Parbat was unforgetable.
Kuta Lombok- Some of the best barrels in my life. Excellent fish and mushies.
Angkor Wat, Preah Khan and Ta Phrom- what can I say?
Varanasi, India- everyday I was there I saw something that I've never seen before in my life.
New South Wales mid north coast- there's no place like home. 
Korea is okay. Only been here for a month though, so....

yeah the Great Wall is the most incredible site I've seen though I'm trying to get to Angkor this summer, that is something I am truly looking forward to.
Now has anybody done it overland from Bangkok recently? |

Get from BKK by minibus or public bus to Aranya Prathet. From there you pass through Cambo customs at Poi Pet (a depressing armpit of a place and then get another bus/minivan to Siem Reap.
You can organize Visa and minibus from any one of a number of joints on Khao San Road, but ask plenty of questions about transport once you cross the border. Me and some friends ended up riding for 5 1/2 hours in the back of a pickup on the most bumpy godforsken road I've ever seen.
Angkor has to be one of the most spectacular sights in the world, hands down. Enjoy. |

Interesting... so many places, I have to write some of tehse down and do a little vacation research.
1. Bermuda; I want to retire there. Its expensive to live there but I had such an impression of the relaxed lifestyle that I went back and stayed longer.
2. Maine...Stop laughing.  I have great memories of travelling thru Maine and New England. Route 9 along the coast, Camden...back inland to Wisscasset(sp) ....
Good times.
3. Korea. I live here; good pay for what I do. |

Very true - did you see any of the Swami's eating body parts from floating cremations of the dead washed up on the river banks? I saw one with an arm he seemed to be coveting and not about to share it with other Swami's. Did a double take and side-stepped the crazy old man.
To add one - Kathmandu - Nepal - a rickshaw powered by an old lawn mower contraption, tied to the rickshaw with bits of old rope - the thing rocketed along though, overtaking everything in sight, leaving a trail of thick black smoke in its wake. |

I saw these fresh water dolphins eating body parts in the Ganges but I also saw Sadhu's who were naked except for being covered in human ashes and carrying tridents; ******* different mate! India is something else!!!! Can't wait to have another look. |

Naked Sadhu's - check out the ashram in Puna / Poona (Marharastre spp?), about an hr. by bus from Bombay) - one of Osho's relics - mad place 
Dolphins - were they the funny looking things with extra long snouts on them - like a cross between a dolphin and a crocodile? Narials I think they are called. Weird story, read it in a book - one was tagged in Tibet then spotted in India - like, underground river systems under the Himalaya. Freaky.
Back On Topic: Borneo - taking a motorcycle tour through the interior, saw an Orangutan throwing rocks at any human in sight - like BIG rocks - think she had a baby nearby and was protecting it. |

| Is is just me, or is "the best place you've been to" more a state of mind than a location? Some of the places I've enjoyed the most aren't neccessarily ones that I'd recommend to others... |
