Very confused by all of this.
Someone has said July, another August.
Someone has said it's nonsence and that the state check will suffice.
Can we get someone who knows the TRUTH on here to explain in simple English please.
Also, if it is true, can I start the process to get one of these checks while still in Korea? Only planning on being in the states for 5 weeks between jobs. Is that enough time? |

hahaha...although I know it's SUPER annoying for us all, I sometimes have to sit back and laugh everytime Korea changes their immi policies. No one EVER seems to know what's going on for sure..not even the people working at the immi offices. You can ask 5 different people and get 5 different answers. They really need to get it together. |

The immigration changes sure do update fast.
I mean- the story broke how long ago? Is there any kind of panel to discuss changes to be made or is it one old timer with a chip on their shoulder?? |

I haven't come across this question in the forum...If I choose to stay with my hagwon and sign on for another year, do I have to go through the whole document process again, or is my visa renewed? |

Your boss will renew your visa, just remind him/her!
No need for all the documents again. |

I personally go to the office myself, as do other people. |

However, us E-2'ers, even if we had been in Korea for years, still had to go through all of the new rules just to renew our contracts even if we had been at the same place for years. We had to do it just that once because it being a new rule we never had to do it before. Then, if this is once again the case, 1000's of us will have to do the FBI check just to renew where we already are. That's the way it was before, so I imagine it will be that way again. |

I just did the RCMP check and it will take about 12 weeks. No need to leave Korea and you can submit your check results later.
1. Go to the Canadian embassy and get the fingerprint form. The RCMP WILL accept a Korean form but some Korean police stations demand the foreign form.
2. Go to your local gu police office. Get the fingerprints done. Takes 5 min and didn't cost me anything. I got mine done at the Mapo gu police station.
3. Send this to Canada, the RCMP. You will have to first send it to a Canadian address and have them send it to the RCMP. You'll have problems getting it returned if not. Include a $25 check or money order.
4. The RCMP sends the results back to the Cnd. address and they send back to you in Korea.
5. You submit this to immigration or administration/education office.

This is my first time teaching English in Korea. I just sent over my paperwork a few days ago.I had a state-wide check. If I decide to stay in Korea another year (after my first one), will I have to get an FBI background check? Can US citizens do that in Korea, or would I have to go home? |

I'm guessing that people who renew will be exempt. It's one thing to ask for a local check that takes only a few days, but a federal check takes months. That would effectively make it impossible for someone to renew by the end of August. |

I received an email saying that after the 30th of August, there is change in Immigration laws. From here on out, they are requiring a Federal Back Ground check, which in reality will take much longer than the typical state wide background check. My question is concerning those who are already in Korea. If a person wants to change jobs while still in Korea (at the end of contract) will they have to fly all the way back home to get a Federal Background Check and then wait the long period of time? If that is the case, I truly believe Korea will experience a drought in educators (despite how good the pay is). anyhow any opinions or comments? |

Beyond that, I can't find anything stating we need anything more than a State apostatized document mate. That's with a good Google search. No info on new laws, as we'd see through discussions on blogs and such. |
