I arrived on a Sunday night last month and many bars and restaurants were open on that day.

Try the Hibashi-Shinshibashi area for hotels and the establishments you are looking for.

This area is on the opposite side of the street as the K-embassy, in the little side streets.

Don't know any specifics, just check it out for yourself.

This is true, there will always be other teachers doing a visa run at the same time. You can all get your heads together on the way. Dont be shy.

As well, you may luck out to meet a veteran teacher who you can just follow around like a puppy.

I'm flying into Korea on a tourist visa. I know some people say an onward ticket isn't required but I have checked with the embassy and with the airline both of who said I might not even be allowed to board the plane.

Since I am going with my girlfriend (she is traveling one-way on an E2 visa.) I figure it would complicate matters if I was refused boarding. (*doh* can you imagine the pain she would cause me? *GRIN*)

Anyway, I thought about booking the ferry ticket that some have suggested but since we will be on the west coast and I will need to do a visa run anyway I was thinking about booking a return ticket from Korea to Osaka.

Any thoughts on the price of a return ticket from Seoul to Osaka with flexible dates probably between early september and late october? It's almost $700 canadian to book the flight here. (that seems like a lot.)

And will this satisfy the onward ticket requirement?
(calling the embassy to ask the question also)

While the embassy will probably tell you you need a return ticket, you don't. The embassies and the immigration officers are in different departments (or at least this is how it was explained to me), and my school has several adult students who work for immigration at the airport. They say that you don't need an ongoing ticket.

Has anyone here actually been asked for proof that they're continuing on?

My visa run went fine and you were right--I met several other teachers doing the same thing and followed them around, so it was okay.

I flew in last week on a one way ticket, tourist visa, and had no problems. Just told them I was going on a visa run in a few days and that my boss had my ticket. They let me right through. But who knows what will happen if I try it again next week.

I'm supposed to be going on a visa run August 13th. Anyone else going that day? I haven't got my flight time yet but the flight has apparently been booked.

visa run on the evening of the 25th, returning on the 26th of August, the next day... going to Osaka, of course. More than happy to have anyone to hang around with, never done the run before myself.

Successfully finished the visa run. To say, "Hurry and get your butt to the Embassy ASAP!" is an understatement.

If you are held up by more than 15 minutes waiting in immigration then the chances of you making the Rapi't B at 12:35 are slim to none. In that case, you have to wait for the Rapi't A at 1:13, which will get you there at about 2pm if you don't dawdle leaving Namba.

Seriously, move your butt and you'll be alright.

I'll write more and try to update/add to the directions later when I have more time to write.
