IKEA (the new furniture mall in Seoul) is getting heavy traffic with too many customers. IKEA may be forced to close by January 15.
What the *******? |

I very much doubt that.
Where did you hear this rumour? |

Catching the Yeongdeungpo - Gwangmyeong shuttle train (of Line 1 metro) would be the best bet, but there are only 4 runs in the morning and 6 in the evening in each direction. You might want to plan your routing and connections meticulously. Even so, IKEA is 10 minutes away on foot from the train station, which may or may not affect your return trip if you're carrying all the goodies. |

Or you could take the KTX from Seoul to Gwangmyeon, but it is a bit pricier.
But it is going to be super busy and how will you carry stuff home? Also I heard that stock is pretty low. |

Forcing Ikea to close would tank this economy and show the world that investing foreign capital should be done anywhere but here.
I hope they do it. It will be funny. |

Wow what a racist thread title. I am guessing from the way the OP mocks blacks, she is South African or Australian. Please prove me wrong. |

You are wrong. I was sleepy when I made the post. I threw a title up as fast as I could type with no thought of editing it. I'm not sure what makes the title racist. You got some issues you need to get of your chest, a chip on your shoulder? |

As far as carrying packages, Ikea has delivery service in Korea.
As for having to close down, who is going to pay Ikea for their investment in that store? It's the largest Ikea in the world. That's too big a tent to just fold up and go home with. |

Holy crap. I thought it was a joke. They really are going to shut it down.
Shouldnt they have thought about possible traffic issues before this place was built? And they want to give it the twice a month closing rule. They seem to be applying that rule a bit haphazardly. |

If the traffic is getting as bad as they say, a temporary closing might be necessary. If its causing the entire Gwangmyeon area to become massively congested and no one living there can get anywhere, something needs to be done.
But it should be like a temporary thing. Or a change in business hours. Nothing permanent. |

In another setback, Gwangmyeong is pressing the central government to revise a law governing the retail business to have IKEA registered as a large-scale discount mall. The outlet is now registered as a mall specializing in furniture.
If it is re-categorized as a discount mall, IKEA will have to shut twice a month on weekends, a decision taken two years ago to ensure co-prosperity of big and small retailers. |
Korea, once again giving a big f*** you to foreign companies. |

Traffic congestion? Huge numbers sure play a part but similarly so does Korean driving habits. I bet the locals are pissed because the drivers are not allowing gaps for them to exit the area and are just per usual tailgating the driver in front not allowing space for anyone to get in, out or through.
Oh, and with parking for only 2000 cars I bet most of them would still wait over an hour in traffic to get in rather than finding an alternative parking solution which requires a 15-20 mins walk. |
