What area of Seoul is best to live in if you enjoy dancing?

My wife and I enjoy dancing (mostly tango and salsa). We're looking to live in Seoul, and we want to live in an area where we can take lessons/classes and dance late into the night.

One concern is that we'll likely often dance past subway hours, and we don't want to pay large amounts of money on taxis to get home.

We'd prefer an area that has a selection of salsa/tango classes and bars/clubs, then, after dancing, we can just walk home, or take a quick taxi home.

Any suggestions?

That answer was probably only 1/2 tongue in cheek.

Taxi's aren't that expensive (you can still catch a cab from Itaewan to Suwon for 50k in the wee hours if you ask around a bit). 20k goes a long way in Seoul in the wee hours.

You will find that places that have salsa dancing come and go with the wind and switch around just about as fast.

IMHO, basing the location of your new residence on its proximity to a bar or dance club specializing in that particular hobby just isn't really good planning. There are bigger things to worry about (like proximity to decent employment). Choosing your job (or job location), based on the proximity of salsa dancing is equally as ludicrous.

I 'm not looking but I've run into dance studios in my neighbourhood and they offer classes at the community centre as well. They seem common enough.

I don't know where you can dance the tango and salsa into the wee hours though.

Itaewon or Hongde are your best bet. I don't know who is offering classes these days but in the past there was always some club that does that sort of thing.

Dance classes are popular throughout Seoul as well, but again, I have no idea who is offering what.

Hongdae and Seoul.

Schools are littered all around Seoul....

Finding them will require speaking some Korean(to search online) or walking around your neighborhood...alot....internet is your friend...

You'd be surprised how many there are in Seoul not in itaewon or Hongdae.

Actually bars and dacing clubs are usually in Seoul or Hongdae though....

It drives me nuts when people ask stuff like "What part of Seoul should I live in for ....."

Look, Seoul is big, but it's not huge. You can live anywhere and be a short commute from anywhere else. The bigger issue you should worry about is rent and quality of neighborhood. Find that first and then take the subway to your favorite dance school/club.

The only way you'll be too far away from the good stuff is if you live on the outer edge of the city (ironically those areas have cheaper rents for nicer apartments and the towns and neighborhood are generally newer and cleaner.)
