I apologize unreservedly for...........being happy about having some success in life! 
alistaircandlin - Your comments were accurate.
In the UK system, 73% is a distinction, the highest grade possible. Hardly mediocre. 
68% was just two marks shy of another distinction. Whereas 63% was a merit.
In your view alistair, what are the two merits and one distinction equal to in terms of Grade A, B, or C?
Now that you know how things work in the UK, feel free to amend your answers Carbon and ttompatz, but please don't feel obliged. |

I had friends that were American exchange students at my Uni in England and they went from being grade a students to getting 50% for papers and would complain about how hard the grading was.... So a 73% would be like a US 90% or something I guess. Just a guess.
EDIT - Alistair candin got there befor me and did a clearer job.
I once got a 90% at my college for a seminar and was assured in private that anywhere else in the world it would have been a 100% but you just cannot get a 100% at a uk institution. |

And golsa should remember had the US not been a British colony, they would all be speaking Spanish or a Native Indian language!
You should be very grateful to the British because they gave you their language to use.

We realize you are just having a laugh about this, but 73 is not the highest possible grade...that grade is 100%.
To put this another way... you got one of the lowest possible grades in the category of 'distinction'.
Which isn't to say it is not worthy of recognition...but perhaps you are taking the point a bit too far...yes?

Just a side-note: if the US spoke Spanish then so would the rest of the world, the US is the reason it's the global language now. One thing's for sure - I'm sure fortunate my native Australia speaks the USA's language otherwise I'd be sh$t out of luck!
Congrats on the marks. For the record, Aus seems to mark the same as the US (me thinks) 50-65 is a pass, 65-75 is a credit, 75-85 is a distinction and 85+ is a high distinction. So the 85 mark is where the awe factor kicks in. |
