George Martin, known as "the fifth Beatle" for his work in shaping the band that became one of the world's most influential music forces, has died at the age of 90.
He was considered the most successful music producer ever, cited in the Guinness Book of Records for having more than 50 No. 1 hit records over five decades in the United States and Britain alone.
He helped score, arrange, and produce many of the band's biggest hits, including "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "A Day in the Life", “Yesterday”, "Eleanor Rigby" and "Love Me Do".

With obits like this, I usually think it's best to let the music speak for itself, and in this case that would include the entire Beatles songbook except for the Let It Be album. But I think I'll just go with one where Martin's musical contributions can be directly heard...
In My Life
That's Martin's piano solo at about 1:30.
In addition to the Beatles, he produced a lot of other notable stuff as well, including Shirley Bassey's Godlfinger theme, some of the more iconic songs by America, and Elton John's Candle In The Wind re-write for Lady Di.
RIP, George.
