Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this very helpful thread.
I spent about 2 months on a D-10, the looking for work visa. I never left the country. I switched back to an E2 when I found a job. Would that be considered a change of visas? Can apply for the F299 when I hit the 5 year mark or did that stint with the D10 disqualify me?
And I switched to the D10 after completing a contract. No release letter. |

I am just reviving this thread to ask a question about severence.
On EPIK (and I think everywhere) we no longer get our severence yearly only when we resign from our position. So my question is would that severence be assessed as part of our savings?
When I plan to apply in about 2 years that severence will push me over the 30mil mark.
Anyone know about this please? |

Not unless it's in your bank account. |

First, thanks to LittleLisa for sharing her information.
I took...
1. application form, passport, ARC, photo, fee 130,000 won
2. a letter of why you want the F2-99 (about 3/4 of a page in Korean)
3. proof of being able to support yourself financially (You need two types)
- proof of savings: bank balance, key money, jeonse receipts, etc (It had to be more than 30 million won)
- proof of income: income statement, tax payment certificate, pension forms, etc (for the last tax year, it has to be more than the national average)
All of these forms have special names given in the Korean version of the rules for the F2-99. I advise going to immigration and getting this printed. I carried it with me when I was getting my bank forms and my criminal check. This way they knew exactly what form to provide to me.
4. Good conduct and basic knowledge
- Local police background check (clean record, obviously)
- TOPIK level 2 or higher, or passing the Korean integration course
They also asked for my real estate contract for my apartment (even though the contract is with the school that provides my apartment).
He also asked about "pensions". This confused me so I ran to the National Pension office and the Private Teachers Pension (I have money in both). I got balance forms and took them to the immi official the next day. I am not sure if he used them or not.
3 week wait and "yahoo" I got it. |
