The Seoul Baseball League (SBL) is now looking to fill their rosters and begin their 3rd season. The league consists of 7 teams sponsored by a variety of bars, most of which are located in Itaewon - Dillinger's, Sam Ryan's (Itaewon and Suwon), Sin Bin, Wolfhound, Beer O'Clock (Sinchon), RMT, and Hollywood. They play on Saturdays at Gwacheon Government Complex (2 stops away from Seoul Grand Park on Line 4). Three games will be played every Saturday, which means that one team will have a bye each week - games are at 9:00am, 11:30am, and 2:00pm. It gets incredibly hot and sticky here, so the baseball season is split in to two halves in order to give everyone a rest during the hottest part of the summer season. The first half of the season will run from April 13th to July 13th; the second half will run from August 10th, through to October 19th, followed by 2 weeks of playoffs. Currently, there are 30 roster spots available and league fees will be 50,000 per half-season. The league fees cover a variety of things from umpires to broken windows - a complete breakdown of where your money goes is available on the SBL page (link below). There will be a Newbies Meet & Greet at the end of March - scouts (aka team captains) will be in attendance. After the Newbies Meet & Greet, the captains will have a meeting to draft players based on what they saw on the field.
This is a competitive, hardball, beer league. They work hard, they play hard, and sometimes they drink hard. Magpie Brewing Company will be in attendance selling their handcrafted beers as well as hamburgers and hot dogs, each and every Saturday.
If you are interested in playing, please join the SBL Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/141000775973050/) and please fill out a skill sheet and email it to [email protected]. |
