Anyone use interactive whiteboards?

I'm looking to install one at my academy, something with projector mounted above the board. Nothing too high-end... I can spend a few grand tops.

Looking for any recommendations of brands or models, along with pros + cons of using them.

There is a wii remote hack that allows you to create your own interactive whiteboard. You would simply need the projector , a wii remote and homemade pen.

I used a SmartBoard back home. I was pretty happy with it, worked well with the computer, fluid movement, a thousand times easier than writing everything a hundred times, fairly intuitive, you could save anything handwritten on a usb.

It had to be recalibrated every week or two so there wouldn't be a gap between where you placed the pen on the screen and where your writing showed up. Also the students liked to steal the pens.

My current co-workers use their ipads for their lessons, hooked up to flatscreens that all the classrooms have. They use a program called Keynote, which I am hoping to integrate into my classes next semester. So that may also be an option.

I looked into these a bit, but decided to go with an appleTV connected to an HDMI projector. You can project anything to it from an iPad in the room on the same network. Very small, much cheaper, more app options (whiteboard, presentation, books, games, movies).

I don't think they are interactive whiteboards. They are interactive screens. I could be wrong but you're not supposed to use them as white boards. We have interactive screens at our university, all totally trashed with writing permanently on them. If you have teaching programs that use them, they are great. They can help make the class more student centered.
