because I'm only supposed to get ten days paid vacation over the course of the year

There is no way to know what that means. You used up your 10 vacation days already? It's irrelevant information anyway.

Regardless if they are vacation days, paid/unpaid/overtime paid/whatever, you should still show up for work.

Next, present him with a second address (closer to the school the better). Tell him this is where you will be moving to this weekend. Let him know if he doesn't pay you will be staying there to collect from him. If he gives you a flight and money as promised, then great. If not, you will actually need to find a place if you are going to fight it.

Enough working under his rules and promises. It's time to let him know exactly consequences if he doesn't follow through.

They can do whatever the hell they want as long as you go along. Hell no they can't do that. Go in, surf some porn, or whatever, just make a showing.

lol no porn for me, but I'll definitely have to go in there tomorrow morning and lay it down.

I'm still confused the whole "making up unpaid vacation" at the last minute. So sketchy.

You can check your pension balance by calling them. Just google NPS, national pension service. I did that today and found out my balance is zero. Evil or Very Mad

Called them today, and you can guess what they had to say about my two years of "contributions."

In other news, called the labor board, who said I have to wait two weeks before filing any claims. Then called immigration, who told me that to extend the E2, I would need paperwork from the labor board. Asked about the D10, and they indicated that I'll be in the clear with that visa as long as I come to immigration with my documents and fill out paperwork.

The boss promises he'll pay me everything before the plane's supposed to leave and I'm hoping that's the case. If not, then I'll be prepared. Thanks for the help.

How did you have all that happen to you since you're not exactly a newbie? Maybe, you had another job before where the boss was straight up. I, generally, check my contributions if I work for a hagwon. I work for a university now, so I don't worry about that so much. However, I'll check it all the same in a week. I'm sorry you've gotta deal with a person who is acting like slime. Many of us have our war stories.

The first hagwon I worked for was all right and more of a "work hard play hard" atmosphere with that boss. I hadn't heard of the pension scheme (or that I could eventually get a refund) so I didn't check for it. I was always paid on time and never had to worry about any of that.

At the second job though, it sounds pretty crazy with all the unpaid salary piling up at the end, but that's just how it worked out. It was a mixture of my own tolerance and (bad) assumptions on my part. I assumed that since the two girls before me finished their contracts, then they obviously must have been paid. I mean, who would stay there without being paid, right? That was the line of thinking that got me in this position.

They pretty much always paid late, but about two weeks late. And it was like that for most of the year. I thought I had a good relationship with the director and we talked about a lot of things, including my plans for the future. It was just in the last few months when the payments suddenly came later and later, then when I would ask, the boss would deposit a random amount. Before I knew it they had basically made it perfect in that I was only paid up to December by the end of February.

At the last second, they deposited only the two months pay minus the severance. I asked about the severance but they basically ignored me. They don't know I'm still in the country and I was able to switch my visa and will be filing a claim in due time.

Anyway, it was a lesson learned the hard way. This time around, I know exactly what to look for.

In addition to going to the labor board to get that severance pay, you should also go to the pension office and report him. True, you'll have to back pay your part of the pension contributions as well, but you'll double your money when you reclaim it (along with his contributions).

Were you able to change the date on the flight ticket?

Will definitely consider doing that. Though I think I read on here the other day where someone tried that, except the rep told him/her it was impossible for them to just pay their half and that it had to come from the school. I can always try and see for myself.

The boss bought the ticket and while I did suggest it to him while asking for my severance payment, of course he didn't.

the first statement was mine. I havent checked again with the pension office but made an agreement with my boss for it to be paid in full at the end of this month.

But yep, the pensin office lady told me in person that it had to be paid through my employer. I didnt enquire about making a complaint at that time though

In any case you should make the complaint at the pension office. Maybe you won't be able to get the money before leaving Korea, but if nothing else it goes down on the boss' record.
