Thanks for all your help guys, making me breathe a little easier. Day 1 of no weed... not happy but oh well a new future awaits.
If anyone DOES have an experience with hair testing, bump this shee-ite. |

The required testing is clearly outlined by immigration (it is their requirement for registration as a foreign teacher) and there are no surprises.
It is a pee test for caniboids.
It is a blood test for other drug use screening.
It is an X-ray for TB.

You may want to get yourself tested before you leave for Korea. If you test positive, don't come. Wait until your test is clean before you get on a plane.
When you get here you should find yourself being tested the first week. You have to be tested to get your Alien Registration Card (ARC) and you need to have your ARC to be registered with the local education office (also to be signed up for health insurance and pension). To be a legal teacher you must be registered at the education office within two weeks of your first day at work.
If you test positive in Korea they may give you a chance for another test a few days later, but you could very well find yourself being required to leave with no job, no pay and paying for your own airfare here and back.
If you fail twice, you will certainly find yourself on a quick return flight. |

it's the bone marrow test that sucks. The testing of the spinal fluid is a bee sting compared to how they extract the bone marrow. |
The full cavity search exam is also pretty tough to go through and no rubber gloves either.
Seriously OP its a pee test, good on you for stopping early. |

The ridiculous thing about Korean government is that drinking 3 or 4 bottles of soju every night is no worries at all. I see drunk ajjoshis get in there cars to drive every night.
I've had taxi drivers drinking, texting, and watching TV while driving.
But, God forbid someone smokes a little pot.
It's not just Korea, ridiculous rules in Countries all over the world on marijuana. I haven't smoked pot in probably 10 years but it's basically harmless. When will common sense be used??
Our world is completely F worded. |

Not to be a dick, but do you really teach English?
Its sad that they would employ people with questionable English skills, but god forbid you smoke a flower on your free time.... |

no YOU are being a dick for even trying to come to Korea given your "medical condition" If you did ANY sort of research on life here, you would know how the Koreans feel about foreign teachers smoking weed any how they generalize an entire group of people for the actions of a few
Every time a person pops positive on a drug test or gets busted, it causes more grief for the ones who are here.
You aint in the states anymore and don't give this stuff "weed isnt as bad as booze bs" you're in Korea where they think weed will ruin their kids and society and it their rules you got to play by.
If you dont like the rules/attitudes here, teach somewhere where its tolerated and dont come here |

Don't be mad homie, but learn English for when you do decide to rant on the interwebz.
And in case you really are as bad as I think, and therefore have terrible reading comprehension, I said I wasn't smoking anymore, here or there, so... yeah. I am playing by there rules.
And weed is nothing compared to alcohol as far as societal problems are concerned. No reasonable and intelligent person can successfully argue otherwise. Have a great day. |

At home it would get you a fine if you were caught (red handed).
Here, if someone gets busted and simply reports you as a fellow user you will have the police show up, arrest you, give you a pee test and detain you based on that alone.
Then, provided you have nothing in your possession, on your person, among your possessions and nothing is found in your home, you will simply get deported after a few nights in detention.
IF they find ANYTHING they will take your passport, you will be fired forthwith, you will lose your housing, you will be prosecuted and sentences of 3 years of incarceration are common (with a guilty plea - double when you lose if you plead not guilty).
Your government can't help you.
Your embassy won't help you.
US rules of law do NOT apply.
There is no parole or early release. 3 years is 3 years.
If is not a weed is good/bad, harmful or not issue.
Korea is not the worst for prosecutions either.
Simple use will get you a year in a Thai jail and possession of ANYTHING can get you from 7-20 years of hard time.
Time for the mods to lock this thread.

Why lock the thread? I'm sure other people would want/need to know these things.
It is just a discussion after all.
And just so I am clear, you will be deported just for being ACCUSED of smoking pot, regardless of whether or not it is true/verifiable? That is kinda sad... and scary. |

Disagree. Reminders of the dire repercussions of dabbling in Korea are a valuable public service. |

But it always turns into a deeper debate which is completely unnecessary and counter-productive. Everything that needs to be said has been both in this thread and the many, many that have come before it. Make a sticky and ban the topic from being discussed. There is nothing to 'talk' about. |

There are lots of places in this big wide world where the presumption of innocence until proven guilty does not exist.
Guilty till proven innocent is the rule on more that 1/2 of the planet and the onus is on the accused to prove innocence.
Pee clean and go back to work. Pee positive and go to jail. Do not pass go and do not collect $200.
Get used to it or stay home.
As was said much earlier in this thread you won't be at home, your constitutional rights do not apply, your government can't and won't help you and the rules ARE MUCH different.
Welcome to the big wide world outside the US of A.
