I will be heading back to Korea in a few months, I am married and my husband will be coming with me as a dependent. Will he need to purchase private health insurance before we head over (like he did last time before we were married) or as my husband can I enroll him under my health care and pay for it directly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If he's on an F-3 visa you can have him covered on your policy on the Korean National Insurance. Should be the same price as as single policy. If your school is cool likely they'll just pay their half for the both of you since it's not costing them any extra money to have him included also. If they're cheap twats they may make you chip in a few extra bucks for his share.
In my case, bringing my wife on a similar visa I was eligible for insurance from the date my ARC was issued but she needed to wait 3 months.

Thanks for the help, that is just the information that I needed. I haven't discussed the fact that I am married with my job yet (They don't provide housing, so I don't figure it's any of their business) but I will tell him to get insurance for a few months so that he will be covered until the National Policy kicks in.

Cheers!

IF you have NHIC with the booklet then it is a simple matter to add an F3 dependent to your booklet and there is NO extra charge to you or the employer. You will get a new booklet with his name added about 2-3 weeks after you apply.

He won't be able to be added until he gets his ARC.

If you are:
i) NOT on the NHIC (never issued a booklet) or
ii) you are new to Korea and do not have your NHIC booklet or
iii) work for a hagwan and were not issued a NHIC booklet (no coverage)
then I can't answer for you.

Would this be the same for a dependent child?
