Firearms don't kill people, people with firearms kill people. They also use knives, hammers, tire irons, poison, cars, etc, etc. |

MOD EDIT
For what it's worth it takes a lot more 'guts' to stab someone/ hammer them to death, pulling a trigger is much easier and can be much more of a 'response.'
In a split second your life and others can be over.....
The OP's response is like saying people don't abuse children, peadophiles do!
Pointless arguing about this.....

Yes, tools made for other purposes that can be used for killing. However, a gun's utility is in killing people more efficiently.
Hypothetical situation A: A man wielding a gun stands up in your class with the aim of killing everyone in sight.
Hypothetical situation B: A man wielding a knife, hammer or tire iron stands up in your class with the aim of killing everyone in sight.
If you necessarily had to be dropped into one of those situations, which would you choose and why? |

Around 2006, we could find about 60,000,000 people in the United Kingdom total, plus Scotland. In England and Wales alone not including Scotland there were in excess of 163,000 knife crimes. By the end of 2006, there were over 300,000,000 people in the US as a whole. In the US total, there were fewer than 400,000 gun crimes. In the UK, based on these numbers, there was one knife crime commited for every 374 people. In the US, based on these numbers, there was one gun crime committed for every 750 people less than half a gun crime per 374 people (about 0.4987 gun crimes per 374 people, actually).
That means that, based on these statistics, you are more than twice as likely to be a victim of knife crime in the UK as you are to be a victim of gun crime in the US. |

That's because the UK judicial system is a joke and they treat knife crime, and crime in general far, far too leniently - if guns were easily avalible in the UK i'm sure those crimes would be 1000% higer, compared to the US!
However that is besides the fact..........
The fact is statements such as;

Are so absurd they are almost laughable! |

Wow, you are a genius. Guns can kill people more efficiently than other tools, way to figure that out.
Somehow 99.99+% of people who own guns legally never have a problem with murdering. So whether guns are efficient at killing people or not is QUITE IRRELEVENT, as they are rarely used as such in modern society.
And yes, guns can be more dangerous than other tools. This is why California has strict rules regulating firearms possession and use. Clearly those laws did jack in this case.
Just like the strict laws in Norway did jack to stop the guy who killed 70+. |

I don't understand what your argument is. There are knives in EVERY household. What are your statistics for their safe use?
I'm also curious about what your stance is on nuclear proliferation and, if you are opposed to a country like Iran having a nuclear arsenal, why that may be the case. After all, look at all the countries that have nukes, and 99.99% of all those nukes are never used for killing. |

Staying on topic,
Any more details about the shooter? Some of the Koreans I've spoken with have told me the shooter is "American" and not Korean. |

The article I read describes him as Korean, in his forties, dressed in khaki. |
