http://www.npr.org/2017/05/24/529862697/republican-s-altercation-with-reporter-shakes-up-montana-race-on-eve-of-voting

Quote:
The Montana special congressional race was roiled on the eve of Thursday's vote after GOP nominee Greg Gianforte allegedly "body slammed" a reporter.

According to audio posted by Ben Jacobs, a political reporter with The Guardian, he was attempting to ask Gianforte a question, ahead of a campaign event in Bozeman, about the Congressional Budget Office's scoring of the Republican health care bill, which showed that 23 million more people would be uninsured in 2026 if the bill were enacted.

In the recording, Jacobs can be heard asking Gianforte about the CBO score. Gianforte says he doesn't have time and directs Jacobs to talk to his spokesman, then there is a scuffle and a crash.

"I'm sick and tired of you guys!" Gianforte can be heard yelling.

"The last guy did the same damn thing," the GOP nominee continues. "Get the hell out of here."

lol CBO score

The sheriff has not arrested Gianforte. The sheriff is also a donor.

Unfortunately, he won anyway (some said the assault and battery might have gained him some votes - how sick is that?...) But some analysts think the relatively narrow victory is good news for Democrats chances to retake the House ... https://www.vox.com/2017/5/26/15695972/montana-results-democrats-overperform

I see it as pretty bad news for the Dems that even a guy who is so unstable and unhinged that he physically lashes out when asked tough questions, beat one of them. (The bizarre thing about this incident to me is that a split second before the attack, Gianforte was being fairly calm and reasonable. There was no sign that he was about to attack. He went from 0-100 in nothing flat.)

The Dems will never retake the House as long as they keep writing off half the country as "deplorable." Which is what happened here: the DNC gave Quist only token backing, thinking the race was unwinnable. They wanted to focus on races they could win, in--you guessed it--educated coastal areas. It's a losing strategy.

The DNC won't give up this toxic elitism because it's who they are. They won't learn because they can't learn. Their disgust for the people they want to lead will kill them every time.

I do not.

Over half the votes had been submitted absentee. And the bodyslammer is in Congress. He will do more damage than a single Democrat in the minority.
