|Visited over the weekend, here is a recap of current prices/information.
Arriving at Intercity Bus terminal (near City Hall, not near Emart) you can catch a taxi anywhere. Or walk 2 blocks towards the sea, turn right and you will come to a bus stop. Tourist info outside the terminal, they speak different languages. Only place in Sokcho I could find an English map.
Bus Fare 1,100 won, no cards. Cash only, have the correct change or you will get 900 won back in coins if you put in 2,000 won.
Bus 7 & 7-1 both go to Seoraksan.
Seoraksan park entrance 2,500 won.
Seoraksan Cable Car 9,000 won - get your ticket inside of the park, follow the signs. There was a 90 minute wait to go up the cable car even on a rainy day.
Lots of hotels, motels, etc. in the area, nothing was full. We stayed at Seorak-dong, a few bus stops away from the entrance at the Goodstay Smile Resort. Good price, near the bus stop. It has an outdoor deck next to a mountain stream. The owner's son speaks English.
Lighthouse Observatory - free
Expo Tower 1,500 won. It's open at night as well, for a night view.
Bike rental at 7 Eleven (next to Expo Tower) 4,000 won per hour, they also have small electric scooters for 10,000 won per hour. No deposit.
There are other bike rental locations, we rented at Expo Tower because we were already there.
Emart near Expo Tower (Emart's prices were high on any 'beach or summer related' items)
CS - a few blocks from Emart (look for the building with a white dove picture)
Korean restaurants and seafood everywhere
McDonalds - new? in front of Expo Tower, near Emart
Popeyes - inside of Emart
Pizza Hut & Dominoes on the main road kind of near Jungang market
Dunkin Donuts & Baskin Robbins on the main road near Jungang market
The beaches were not crowded at least the 1st weekend of July. Lots of different beaches in and around Sokcho to explore.
Watch the prices in coffeeshops & restaurants near Jungang market. 2 different coffee shops and 1 restaurant tried to charge higher prices vs. what was on the menu. Maybe they assumed we couldn't read Korean?
Take sun screen with you. The prices in Sokcho were grossly inflated.
