Actually it's unethical not to discriminate in that manner for jobs. It has always been that way. And very few people would not want it that way. |
Actually, in the US, aptitude tests have been challenged under anti-discrimination laws, making it more difficult for employers to discriminate on the basis of qualifications. |
Ricci v. DeStefano is more complicated than that.
A New Haven Fire Department written test revealed a disparate impact in its results, and only 8 vacancies were open, but all of the top 10 were white. New Haven discarded the tests and promoted nobody, because they were afraid they violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. The Court struck down New Haven's response, and said the city violated Title VII when it took remedial action, and should reinstate the tests.
The aptitude test wasn't challenged, but instead its removal was challenged. The test was upheld and reinstated, and rightly so. |

CORPUS CHRISTI - The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the City of Corpus Christi for alleged employment discrimination against women at the police department.
According the DOJ, the city is accused violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 due to physical fitness test for police applicants. The complaint covers department hiring standards in effect from 2005-2011.

One of the enjoyable parts of being a reactionary is you know that history repeats itself. Not in subtle ways or ways that rhyme, but actually just repeats itself all the time. You can sit back and enjoy the show.
We all know, for example, that evolution once went on trial. Those crazy rubes in Tennessee refused to believe the truth of evolution.
That could never happen again, right?
If you read a bit about evolution, youll come across the term sexual dimorphism. In short it refers to the common fact that males and females of the same species often exhibit different characteristics or traits.
Alas, the Justice Department is suing sexual dimorphism.
People dont really change.

Egalitarianism at the barrel of a gun!
All firms that are worth working for discriminate. They demand a university degree for general jobs, a STEM degree or professional designation (CPA/CFA/bar passage) if you want higher quality workers and then filter them all down by demanding experienced workers (meaning they showed up to work and produced for years). This filters out all the people that would have been initially caught by an IQ test. Unfortunately it means we all have to drop a hundred grand on university and designations. Much easier to just eliminate the idiots and have firms train the competents. That would be discrimination though. So we all get half a decade worth of hoops to jump through. |

Follow the egalitarian logic:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/06/23/op-ed-president-obama-president-obama-reflects-impact-title-ix
Quote: |
1) Well, 40 years ago, committed women from around the country, driven by everyone who said they couldnt do something, worked with Congress to ban gender discrimination in our public schools. Title IX was the result of their efforts, and this week, we celebrated its 40th anniversary40 years of ensuring equal education, in and out of the classroom, regardless of gender.
2) more women as a whole now graduate from college than men. This is a great accomplishmentnot just for one sport or one college or even just for women but for America. And this is what Title IX is all about.
3) Title IX ensures equality for our young people in every aspect of their education
4) But theres so much farther we can go. There are always more barriers we can break and more progress we can make. |
Creating a university graduation achievement gap in favor of women is equality at work? It was "all about" creating a matriarchal society? The abuse of language is literally Orwellian.
and this:
Quote: |
The women who grew up with Title IX now pioneer scientific breakthroughs, run thriving businesses, govern states, and, yes, coach varsity teams.
|
Which breakthroughs. Which businesses. I am aware of zero breakthroughs and only Meg Whitman.
State Egalitarianism is a war on pattern recognition and the criminalization of evolutionary outcomes. The current elite are creating a Soviet system that is even more out of touch with human nature than was the Soviet system.
Bigvern, comeon over to the dark side. Inequality for all! |

More state tyranny in action.
Blacks and hispanics are underrepresented at a school. Said school is therefore guilty of some form of discrimination. Notice the article says nothing about the likely massive overrepresentation of Asians, who seem to get into elite schools at greater rates than whites.
Thomas Jefferson High School For Science And Technology Hit With Civil Rights, Discrimination Suit
The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a prestigious Alexandria, Va. high school, has been hit with a federal civil rights lawsuit.
The Coalition of The Silence, a local minority advocacy group, and the NAACP filed a complaint to the U.S. Department of Education Monday alleging that black and Latino students, as well as students with disabilities, are being shut out of the school because Fairfax County consistently fails to identify them for gifted programs
"Poor Latino kids are not being identified, and I worry part of that is language," Martina Hone of the Coalition of Silence told NBC Washington. "African-American kids are not being identified. I'm worried that's race."

How can an aptitude test give complete information on an individuals ability in learning and doing a set of tasks? I typically do really well on aptitude tests, but not so well in grades. There are many things to look at. |

And the FDNY:
http://unamusementpark.com/2012/07/federal-judge-fines-fdny-129-million-dollars-for-black-and-hispanic-stupidity/
Quote: |
Heres what went down:
FDNY decides firefighters should be able to perform such cognitively demanding tasks as
determining if 9 is a bigger or smaller number than 8,
subtracting 18 from 22,
finding the word below the word gloves in a list of 7 articles of clothing,
gauging which is more dangerous when one is standing on a subway track: an approaching subway train, or rubbish burning in a small garbage can on a platform somewhere, and
not standing in pools of water while handling downed power lines
FDNY administers two multiple choice tests with 4 answers per question, meaning someone who guesses answers totally at random will probably score 25% or better on any given test and has a 75% chance of scoring 25% or better on at least one test
black and Hispanic applicants are unable to outwit a coin toss
DAS RACISS!!!!!!!
Judge Nick Garaufis rules FDNY practiced intentional discrimination against blacks and Hispanics when it asked them to ascertain
whether one should count the number of apartments in one building by checking a different building,
whether locking every exit is more dangerous during a fire than a half-empty bucket of sand in the boiler room,
whether blocking the doors is more dangerous during a fire than loud music, and
whether its okay to use an aluminum ladder more than once before you throw it away
Judge Garaufis insists he will not implement racial quotas, despite the citys misleading and inflammatory statements to the contrary
Judge Garaufis promptly rules that two of every five new firefighters hired must be black and one Hispanic as opposed to the old, racist system, which required that five of every five be minimally competent/not retarded (clearly privileging whites)
Judge Garaufis also decrees FDNY must hire any blacks and Hispanics who scored 25% or better on at least one test, which we emphasize has a 75% chance of occurring if you guess randomly on every question
Judge Garaufis further insists on approximately $129 million in back pay for these whiz kids, plus retroactive seniority and a retroactively higher salary, though his ruling is unclear on whether they get to literally spit in the faces of the real firefighters they now outrank, out-earn, and worst of all command |
The writer above calls the FDNY decision the "diversity beyond parody event horizon". Can't say I disagree. |

There is more than a whiff of testosterone panic on this thread.
Times are a-changing, boys. It's been about a century since muscles lost out to brains in most endeavors that matter.
Women have upped their game. Choice: whine and lose out or give up the games and get to work. |

If women have "upped their game" (I love American lemmings and their sports references) then I guess they won't need preferential government treatment anymore? |

And even in those endeavours women often can't compete without quotas or bogus 'anti-discrimination' initiatives. |

Egalitarianism is consuming itself.
Progressive superstition holds that it is solely a lack of "education" - whatever that means - that keeps Diversity down. The other progressive superstition (Diversity is kicked out of school because of racism and as such we have to stop punishing disruptive Diversity) will further ruin schools. Round and round we go.
Maybe these are conspiracy theories and not superstitions? A combination of the two? Either way, extrapolate this government behavior twenty years into the future and ponder what an American public school will look like. |

Say hello to Thin Privilege:
http://thisisthinprivilege.tumblr.com/
Quote: |
Thin privilege is being able to go to your school counsellor about being bullied and not be told that if you lost weight, maybe you wouldnt be bullied so much.
Thin privilege is being able to watch shows like How I Met Your Mother (just one example) without feeling extremely uncomfortable because they just used your body as a punchline.
Thin privilege is not being told you cant donate your ovum because they are looking for the genetics of a person under a certain weight.
Thin privilege is turning down the air conditioning without ever thinking of the fatter people in the room who arent nearly as cold as you are.
Thin privilege is assuming yours is the default body: your comforts and discomforts are default; your width and weight are the defaults. |
Poor things. |

Next term, SCOTUS will hear an affirmative action challenge. The US high court will probably either narrow or sweep away the entire justification of affirmative action. That will effectively moot the premise of this thread. |
