A confidant of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that U.S. President Barack Obama had yet to present a credible military threat that could deter Iran from seeking nuclear weapons.

The latest criticism was voiced by Tzachi Hanegbi, an influential former legislator who quit the opposition Kadima party in July to join up with Likud and Netanyahu, with whom he has always maintained a close relationship.

“I don’t see that there is a credible threat for American action, the rhetoric of the U.S. president is too vague, very amorphous … I don’t see that (Obama’s words) will be translated into more tangible intentions and therefore this is probably why the Iranians don’t take it seriously, they speak out against it and they dismiss it,” Hanegbi said.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Tapes released by the National Security Agency shed new light on the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 Americans and is one of the most controversial mysteries in U.S. Navy history.

The attack, which took place in international waters off the Sinai Peninsula on June 8, 1967, during the Six Day War, also left 171 Americans injured.

The Israelis have always said the attack on the Liberty, which was monitoring communications in the war, was a tragic accident.

But some survivors and senior U.S. officials at the time have said they believe the attack was a deliberate effort to stop American surveillance of Israeli activities during the conflict.

The NSA on Tuesday released audiotapes of Israeli pilots and ground control speaking in Hebrew, along with English transcripts.

The recordings were made by a nearby American surveillance aircraft in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

"For your info, it is apparently an Arab ship," says ground control.

"Roger," says the pilot.

"It is an Egyptian supply ship," says ground control.

"Roger," comes the response.

The NSA released the tapes and transcripts under the Freedom of Information Act in response to a request from Miami Judge Jay Cristol.

An author of a book on the attack, Cristol said the tapes show it was a tragic accident in a time of war -- that the Israelis mistook the ship for an Egyptian one.

"I don't think there's any question that anyone who reads these tapes would be absolutely convinced there was the fog of war out there," Cristol said.

Later on the tape, the Israelis sound confused and concerned. Ground control orders the helicopter pilots to look for survivors and to check their nationality.

"If they speak Arabic -- Egyptians -- you're taking them to Al-Arish. If they speak English -- non-Egyptians -- you're taking them to Lod. Is that clear?" says ground control.

"Roger," says the pilot.

Do you really think the tiny beleagured nation of Israel would intentionally attack and seek to alienate their most important ally, right at the time they need them the most?

Iran's supreme leader orders fresh terror attacks on West

Iran's Supreme Leader has ordered the country's Revolutionary Guards to intensify its campaign of terror attacks against the West and its allies in retaliation for supporting the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

Police: Muslim cleric framed girl in Pakistan blasphemy case
Quote:

From Nasir Habib, CNN
September 2, 2012 -- Updated 0839 GMT (1639 HKT)
CNN.com
Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Police in Pakistan arrested a Muslim cleric they suspect of planting evidence linking a Christian girl to blasphemy, they said Sunday, in a new twist in a case that has fanned flames of religious tension in the country and attracted worldwide interest.

They arrested the imam, Khalid Chishti, on allegations of putting Quran pages in the bag of the Christian girl, authorities said Sunday.

The girl, Rimsha, 14, is accused of burning Islamic religious texts.

Investigators said they arrested the cleric after witnesses complained about his alleged actions. He will be charged with evidence tampering.

Police arrested Rimsha last month after a neighbor accused her of burning pages containing Quran verses, a crime that can theoretically result in life in prison in Pakistan.

Her accuser gave the cleric the evidence for safekeeping, police said. The cleric then put the pages in the bag as evidence against the girl, according to authorities.

The development comes after Muslim lawyers demanded she remain in jail during a tense hearing Saturday that included a shouting match with the judge. They provided a list of reasons she should be detained, including questioning whether the girl gave her lawyer the power of attorney.

A judge ordered investigators to get more details on her power of attorney and postponed the hearing to Monday. Before Saturday, a decision was supposed to come Thursday, but was deferred so authorities could answer questions about her medical history.

"All these are the delaying tactics by the lawyers of the complainant to keep the girl in jail," said her lawyer, Tahir Naveed Choudhry.

Pakistani authorities have come under pressure to guarantee her safety in a country where those accused of blasphemy have been killed.

Her lawyers dashed into a car and sped off after the hearing Saturday for safety reasons. Rimsha did not attend.

Choudhry has sought bail, saying she is legally a minor and should be reunited with her parents rather than kept in a jail with adults.

He cited a report by an independent medical board stating that the girl is 14. The doctors who examined her also concluded that her mental age was lower than her chronological age and she suffers from Down syndrome, he said.

Police have said that the girl is illiterate and denied knowing that there were Quran verses on the documents she allegedly burned.

The court faces a difficult decision amid concerns that if she is released on bail, angry Muslims will seek retaliation.

Choudhry says he expects the trial to last as long as two years. She would remain in custody for its duration if bail is denied, he said.

If she is tried as a minor, she might receive a milder sentence if convicted. As an adult, she faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for blasphemy, the lawyer said.

She was accused by a local resident of burning pages containing the Muslim holy text after she gathered paper as fuel for cooking in Islamabad, according to the authorities.

The lawyer has said nobody actually saw her burning the papers.

The case has sent hundreds of Christian families fleeing from the area for fear of violence, her lawyer said.

Quote:
Several books and the BBC documentary USS Liberty: Dead in the Water argued that Liberty was attacked in order to prevent the U.S. from knowing about the forthcoming attack in the Golan Heights, which would violate a cease-fire to which Israel's government had agreed.[63][dead link] However, Syria did not accept the cease fire until June 9, after the attack on Liberty.[64] Russian author Joseph Daichman, in his book "History of the Mossad" states Israel was justified in attacking the Liberty.[65] Israel knew that American radio signals were intercepted by the Soviet Union and that the Soviets would certainly inform Egypt of the fact that, by moving troops to the Golan Heights, Israel had left the Egyptian border undefended.[66]
Lenczowski notes that while the Israeli decision to “attack and destroy” the ship “may appear puzzling”, the explanation seems to be found in Liberty's nature and its task to monitor communications on both sides in the war zone. He writes, “Israel clearly did not want the U.S. government to know too much about its dispositions for attacking Syria, initially planned for June 8, but postponed for 24 hours. It should be pointed out that the attack on the Liberty occurred on June 8, whereas on June 9 at 3 AM, Syria announced its acceptance of the cease-fire. Despite this, at 7 AM, that is, four hours later, Israel’s minister of defense, Moshe Dayan, “gave the order to go into action against Syria.”[67] He further writes that timely knowledge of this decision and preparatory moves toward it “might have frustrated Israeli designs for the conquest of Syria’s Golan Heights” and, in the sense of Ennes’s accusations, provides “a plausible thesis that Israel deliberately decided to incapacitate the signals-collecting American ship and leave no one alive to tell the story of the attack.”[68]
U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Barbour, had reported on the day of the Liberty attack that he "would not be surprised" by an Israeli attack on Syria, and the IDF Intelligence chief told a White House aide then in Israel that "there still remained the Syria problem and perhaps it would be necessary to give Syria a blow."[69]
The 1981 book Weapons by Russell Warren Howe asserts that Liberty was accompanied by the Polaris armed Lafayette-class submarine USS Andrew Jackson, which filmed the entire episode through its periscope but was unable to provide assistance. According to Howe: "Two hundred feet below the ship, on a parallel course, was its 'shadow'—the Polaris strategic submarine Andrew Jackson, whose job was to take out all the Israeli long-range missile sites in the Negev if Tel Aviv decided to attack Cairo, Damascus or Baghdad. This was in order that Moscow would not have to perform this task itself and thus trigger World War Three."[70]
James Bamford, a former ABC News producer, in his 2001 book Body of Secrets,[71] proposes a different possible motive for a deliberate attack: to prevent the discovery of a massacre of 300 to 400 Egyptian prisoners of war by the IDF that was taking place around the same time in the nearby town of El-Arish.[72]
The press release for the BBC documentary film Dead in the Water states that new recorded and other evidence suggests the attack was a "daring ploy by Israel to fake an Egyptian attack" to give America a reason to enter the war against Egypt. Convinced that that attack was real, President of the United States Lyndon B. Johnson launched nuclear-armed planes targeted against Cairo from a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. The planes were recalled only just in time, when it was clear the Liberty had not sunk and that Israel had carried out the attack. An information source for the aircraft being nuclear-armed, James Ennes, later stated that he was probably wrong in his original book. According to Ennes, the planes were not nuclear-armed, but most likely armed with Bullpup missiles.[73] The video also provides hearsay evidence of a covert alliance of U.S. and Israel intelligence agencies.[74]
Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a critic of the official United States Government version of events, chaired a non-governmental investigation into the attack on the USS Liberty in 2003. The committee, which included former U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia James E. Akins, held Israel to be culpable and suggested several theories for Israel's possible motives, including the desire to blame Egypt and bring the U.S. into the Six Day War.[75]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident

(What is Thomas Moore doing with James Akins a guy who was fired for being too close to Saudi Arabia? )

Suppose ( unproven) their was a massacre of Egyptian soldiers .

Why would Israel attack the US over it?

And in any rate how could the liberty find out about it? What do they have star trek sensors?

And if there were such a massacre it would certainly not have come from the top of the officials of the Israel government rather it would have been the decision of local commanders .

And if as James Bamford clams that there was a massive conspiracy by Israel then why didn't Israel load up their planes to sink the ship? Israel's planes DID NOT HAVE THE CORRECT WEAPONS TO SINK THE SHIP.

Israel used guns and not bombs against the liberty.

Any way Titus you are making the claims so you ought to have no trouble responding here.

By the way.

Other meetings were held with Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Barak and Israel’s president, Shimon Peres. General Dempsey also visited Yad Vashem, Israel’s official Holocaust memorial, where he wrote in the visitors' book, “We are committed to ensuring that such a human tragedy never happens again.” He departed Israel before the onset of the Sabbath at sundown on Friday.

Each of the meetings “reinforced the deep and special relationship shared by Israel and the U.S.,” Colonel Lapan said, and “served to advance a common understanding of the regional security environment.”

Amid Iranian threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for oil supplies, there have been indications of efforts to calm the increasingly charged atmosphere and discourse. Israel and the United States agreed last week to postpone a major joint military exercise planned for the spring, and Mr. Barak told Israel’s Army Radio on Wednesday that any decision to attack Iran was “very far off.” Colonel Lapan said the sides agreed to hold the joint drill later in the year “to achieve a better training outcome.”

Mr. Peres told General Dempsey on Friday that “Even today in a very complicated situation we can find a common ground. We have profound trust in your democratic system and your armed forces.” General Dempsey assured Mr. Peres that “America is your partner and we are honored to have you as a partner in that regard.”

Alex Fishman, the veteran military affairs analyst of the newspaper Yediot Aharonot, wrote in Friday’s issue that General Dempsey’s visit was “demonstrative,” adding, “It is intended to show the electorate in the United States that the Obama administration is the friendliest administration to Israel in the security realm.”

Foreign policy of U.S. government

Eisenhower Administration (1953–1961)
This section requires expansion. (December 2009)
During these years of austerity, the United States provided Israel moderate amounts of economic aid, mostly as loans for basic food stuffs; a far greater share of state income derived from German war reparations, which were used for domestic development.
France became Israel's main arms supplier at this time and provided Israel with advanced military equipment and technology. This support was seen by Israel to counter the perceived threat from Egypt under President Gamal Abdel Nasser with respect to the "Czech arms deal" of September 1955. During the 1956 Suez Crisis for differing reasons, France, Israel and Britain colluded to topple Nasser by regaining control of the Suez Canal, following its nationalization, and to occupy parts of western Sinai assuring free passage of shipping in the Gulf of Aqaba.[19] In response, the U.S., with support from Soviet Union at the United Nations intervened on behalf of Egypt to force a withdrawal. Afterward, Nasser expressed a desire to establish closer relations with the United States. Eager to increase its influence in the region, and prevent Nasser from going over to the Soviet Bloc, U.S. policy was to remain neutral and not become too closely allied with Israel. At this time, the only assistance the U.S. provided Israel was food aid. In the early 1960s, the U.S. would begin to sell advanced, but defensive, weapons to Israel, Egypt and Jordan, including Hawk anti aircraft missiles.

Quote:
Canada has suspended diplomatic relations with Iran and is expelling Iranian diplomats from Canada, Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird announced in a statement today.

Speaking to reporters in Russia, where he's attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-Operation summit, Baird said the government is formally listing Iran today as a state sponsor of terrorism under the Justice for Victims of Terrorist Act. That will theoretically allow Canadians affected by terrorism supported by the Iranian regime to sue.

"Iran is among the world's worst violators of human rights. It shelters and materially supports terrorist groups," Baird said.

"Unequivocally, we have no information about a military strike on Iran," he added.

In the statement, Baird said Canada has closed its embassy in Iran, effective immediately, and declared personae non gratae all remaining Iranian diplomats in Canada. Those diplomats must leave within five days. All Canadian diplomats have already left Iran.

"Canada’s position on the regime in Iran is well known. Canada views the government of Iran as the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today," he said in the statement.

The statement cited Iran's support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, its failure to comply with UN resolutions on its nuclear program, and its threats against Israel.

The statement also makes reference to Iran's "blatant disregard" of the Vienna Convention that guarantees the protection of diplomatic personnel.

Last November, Iranian students stormed the British embassy in Tehran, the country's capital, and ransacked its offices. Britain's foreign office summoned an Iranian diplomat in London, amid complaints that Iran failed to provide proper security to the embassy and didn't do enough in response to the attack.

Yep, that's the part I'm referring to, except it doesn't mention that Eisenhower told 'em, "Knock yourselves out. You are on your own." It's about that time that the Brits and French had to accept that they were 2nd level powers.

It is difficult to tell just what do Americans themselves think when they see their candidates swear allegiance to Israel as if it were part and parcel of the national anthem and flag. What do they think of the situation where every single deviation from blind support for the Israeli government's positions is considered heresy and treason? It may be a reasonable position for impassioned Christians and loyal Jews. But most Americans are neither, and in their inner hearts they may just wonder about that distant country's source of power, that can cast such a giant pall on US politics and which could also drag their country into a war which they do not want to fight.

The source of power is the gains from usury. Christians used to prohibit usury, though sometimes granting special privileges regarding usury. All that interest ends up somewhere.

So here's how Christians are treated in Israel:
