Quote:
Dave Brubeck, the iconic jazz pianist and composer whose recordings helped the genre gain worldwide popularity, died on Dec. 5 at a hospital in Norwalk, Conn., according to his manager, Russell Gloyd. Best-known for cuts such as "Take Five" and "Blue Rondo a la Turk," Brubeck emerged as an international star when his quartet's 1959 album Time Out became the first jazz instrumental album to sell 1 million copies.

I think I only really knew him for Take Five, on which(if I'm not mistaken) he played the piano, not the signature sax. Good tune in any case, kind of encapsulates my impressionistic feel of the era from which it emerged.

Includes a link to a You Tube video of Take Five.

I used to listen to his stuff with Paul Desmond quite a lot. Great musician and certainly worth checking out if you're interested in jazz.
