|
|
A Pakistani couple killed their teenage daughter by pouring acid on her face and body after they caught her talking to a boy, police and a doctor said on Thursday.
The parents of the 16-year-old confessed to police in Kotli, a town in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, that they attacked their daughter after she had spoke to the boy outside their house, said Mohammad Jahangir, a local doctor at the hospital where she was brought.
"There were third-degree burns on her scalp, face, eyes, nostrils, both arms, chest foot and lower part of legs. Even her scalp bone was exposed," he said, adding that the mother initially told the hospital their daughter tried to commit suicide. Police have arrested the parents.
Almost 1,000 women lost their lives last year in so-called "honor killings" in the conservative South Asian nation, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. Activists say the actual number is much higher as most cases go unreported.

What's with acid being the weapon of choice for these people anyway? I keep hearing stories about acid attacks in Muslim countries. |

According to my Middle Eastern students, acid is very commonly used as a cleaning product in the household. |

Does the whole honor killing thing pre-date Islam?
And why are so many Muslims terrified of the vagina? I understand that my question is worded crudely, but these people are messed up. What's the psychological foundation for needing to control a woman and her sexuality so strongly? |

Honor killings are a tradition that precedes Islam - more cultural than religious.
And all of the Abrahmic religions are afraid of the vagina. |

Christianity isn't afraid of the use of it but the abuse of it. |

Could not that same question be asked, with no irony intended, of many of the GOP/conservative candidates in the US this year?
If memory serves, there are 12....count them...twelve....candidates from the GOP/conservative wing running for seats in the US Senate this year who have much the same view? |

All this, and people are most worried about Iran? Who don't even have a bomb. Pakistan is the biggest threat to world security, and this kind of culture is a major reason why. |

Pakistan hasn't threatened to wipe Israel off the map while Iran who is very close to having the bomb has said so.
Big difference. |

Iran hasn't invaded anyone, ever. They're fully aware that Israel has nuclear capability and they don't want to be bullied by the U.S. and Israel.
The Iranians are no more ignorant of mutually assured destruction than current holders of the bomb are. American leadership isn't afraid of Iran starting a nuclear war with Israel, they're afraid of losing the ability to invade any Middle Eastern country they like at will. |

Comm said "Iran hasn't invaded anyone, ever".
Leonidas I of Sparta disagrees with this assessment. |
