A friend of mine has asked me to recommend a book on the differences between East Asian business and education cultures and those of Europe and America. This is after a lengthy discussion of how Confucianism has created a top-down hierarchical structure that largely endures in East Asia and the implications this has for public hygiene, workplace efficiency, and the value of tests in East Asian societies.

I really don't know a book on this topic. The closest I know of is John King Fairbank's China: A New History, but this book is very different in scope and obviously isn't about Japan and Korea.

Any suggestions?
