I usually cook at home rather than go out for meals, but as I have a limited repertoire of recipes, I've decided it's time to start looking for new ones.
I've never watched cooking shows before, but I just started watching 2 British ones - Simply Italian and Nigellesima. I like Anthony Bourdain's show, but it's more focused on travel. I'm looking for other recommendations and hoping maybe some of you can offer me some suggestions.
Here's what I'd like:
1) Focus on relatively easy to prepare meals. (I don't mind doing some work, but as I usually just cook for myself, there's a limit to how much time I want to spend cooking)
2) I prefer Mexican, Mediterranean (esp. Italian, Greek and Turkish) and Southeast Asian foods, so I'd prefer something with a lot of those.
3) Recent (I don't want a show from 10 years ago)
4) A host that isn't too annoying
Can any of you recommend any good shows that fit the bill?
Thanks |

Giada baby... Mmm. She's a freak in the kitchen. |

A lot of people are turned off by the guy, but just watched the entire series of "Gordon Ramsay's Ultimate Cookery Course" and there were some great ideas in there, all made relatively simple.
Likewise I think Jamie Oliver is a tw*t of the highest order, but he did two series recently about Jamie's 15 Minute Meals and Jamie's 30 Minute Meals. If you can stomach his campishness and annoying catchphrases etc. there's some very good and straightforward recipes.
I also just finished watching a series called "Luke Nguyen's Vietnam". He did 3 seasons travelling around the country and demonstrating how to make all of the local dishes. Some amazing stuff in there.
Can find some torrent links if you need, but they're all recent and pretty easy to find.
You're right about Anthony Bourdain. Great travel and eating show, but not so much info about the actual cooking side of things
Now...whether you can actually pick up many of the ingredients they use in Korea on these shows is a different matter. |

I agree Jamie Oliver is a git of the highest order, but he presents his shows pretty well (he does a great Italian). Gordon Ramsay definitely is a top chef, I actually like his approach, Nigella Lawson is a terrible cook, Keith Floyd is hysterical (and he's a good chef), Gary Rhodes is probably the best chef I've seen on the tv (look for Rhodes Across China and Rhodes Across India), Rick Stein is a brilliant chef if you want to cook fish properly. Antony Worrall Thompson is a liar and a thief, best avoided. |

Another good one I'd forgotten about....if you like Chinese food, "Gok Wan - Made in China" series is very good. Surprising how easy most of the Chinese dishes are. Generally just 5 or 6 different ingredients in various combinations. |

I do a lot of cooking, and I have gotten the most "use" out of Good Eats. I know it doesn't meet a lot of your criteria (it started 14 years ago) and the host, Alton Brown, is considered "annoying" by some.
I like him, he is funny. and the show is really good for teaching how to cook rather than just showing a bunch of recipes.
He takes you from start to finish on cooking topics, from buying ingredients and equipment to step by step instructions. Including history and explanations of why we cook a certain way.
Good episodes on Pad Thai, Chilli, Tacos, How to make Tortillas, uses of leftover tortillas, more shows on Italian than u'd ever need, etc etc. |

Thanks for all the ideas, everyone. I'll check out a few episodes for each of them and decide which ones I like. |
