Not a smoker but this is stupid. Why not have smoking areas within bars?

Exactly. If an individual bar wants to make their rule no-smoking (and cut their business by 75%), have fun with that. Laws are not needed.

Perhaps they should start using tear gas on smokers?

Wish this could be a real thing. In casinos they even have no smoking signs at the tables, but the dealers are so impotent and placid that they don't ever say anything. Smoking is fine for a personal habit, but sharing it with others who don't want it is disrespectful, especially around food. It's really not asking too much to have people step outside and smoke in the open air, where it won't linger around the majority of people who abstain.

The solution is simple- Have businesses that cater to smokers and those that don't. Those that don't want to be around smoke can refuse to patronize them, the exact same way vegetarians or Jews/Muslims can refuse to eat at a scripturally unclean Samgyupsal joint or a temperance (wo)man can refuse to enter a bar.

Obviously you have no children and therefore do not worry about them being struck down by some moron speeding through a red light.

Going outside is fine when it's fairly easy to get out and there's actually an outside. If I'm having a meal on the 10th floor of a building, it takes a long time to get outside (so I tend to avoid the situation). And one bar in Boston I went to had an outside that consisted of a narrow public sidewalk. I'm sure those random passersby just loved walking through that cloud of smoke.

That bar was amusing. The bartender or owner was a smoker too so he had to dip out from time to time for a few puffs, leaving the bar unattended.

I try to be a courteous smoker but sometimes I just can't win.

Complaining about smoking in a casino? Are you kidding me? That's like complaining about people farting in a bathroom
