Hey all, I checked and didn't see anything posted about this yet. It's a North Korean made documentary that was apparently passed off to a translator working in Seoul by someone claiming to be a North Korean defector. It actually looks like it was intended to be released and they used to translator to do so.
It's quite interesting, and makes some decent points, although I've only watched the first half so far. If nothing else, it's interesting to see something like this released by North Korea.
Sorry if this has been posted before.
NSFW as there are plenty of graphic images.

The movie contains odd statements that a Westerner would not use in that particular way. I think this movie was made by a xenophobic South Korean nutcase. Making a movie of this nature would not occur to a North Korean. The reason is the movie provides contrasts that would make somebody realize there are shades of grey in society and that hypocrisy is present naturally in society in general. The North Korean leadership wouldn't like that very much. They would fear that it would be used against them. Anyone with the qualities that drove them to make this movie would end up in one of the North Korean gulags. It's a shame that the South Korean individual who made this movie doesn't even realize that. |

I've gotta disagree. Although I see what you mean, most of the top North Koreans have been western educated from what I understand. They could have easily made something like this.
I also disagree about it showing shades of grey. It's pretty much entirely a negative portrayal of western society.
I do agree that it doesn't look like something that the North Korean government would ever show its people though, since it goes into detail about the consumerist habits of westerners, which is (I think) a different portrayal than what is taught to typical North Koreans.
This definitely could've been made by a South Korean though, totally. And yeah, some of it is pretty nutty, but parts of it are definitely spot on. |

watched that a few day ago.
First, i watched it thinking that it was another BS that NK made.
But as I watch it, I realised I was wrong.
I actually agree with most of what was said. Its just super exaggerated facts.
Most of the criticisms that NK made about capitalism is just unavoidable, its the 'cons' of capitalism.
If the world was perfect, I'd choose communism over capitalism ANY DAY.
But as we know, the world is not perfect and if the US also made a documentary about the 'cons' of Communism or Socialism, it would make NK look worse than what the documentary did to Capitalism. |

No idea who produced it but its a wide-ranging & well-made film. It will challenge you. Parts you'll hate & probably strongly disagree with, but it also highlights a lot of uncomfortable obvious truths. Worth viewing. |

Yeah, agreed. It was over the top at some points, but in general it provided a pretty good critique of modern capitalist society. |

From watching only a section of the film this morning I'd agree.
It's useful to views one's own society thru an outsider's eyes to see how truly bizarre one's own society appears, and in fact is.
Going to watch the full deal later. The portion I watched was on making slaves of humans thru consumerism, until all their emotions are wrapped up in "things". Hopefully they touch on the corporation as well, which is a huge source of the madness. Couldn't really disagree with anything they said in the section I watched. |

I must say, I do not feel this video has much real value. To someone ill-informed and closed-minded, it is probably going to quickly drive them away with its extremity and insulting tone, and to someone already open to its message, it's more like ideological masturbation than anything, with lots of vague affirmation, and very little new information. I watched about a third of it before continuing simply felt unnecessay, not because the underlying theme is wrong (it is generally correct), but because I was not learning anything, and the exaggerations and emotional appeals got boring. |

^ That's actually what I thought was cool about it. The truth is what it is. They obviously aren't trying to sugar coat it for Westerners whose brains are plugged into the matrix, nor is someone who already took the red pill going to learn anything new. It's very blunt and straightforward, very Korean. |

Watched the full thing. A+
It's like a movie made by aliens who came, observed, and reported. Very well made. Every word is perfectly placed to describe the situation, however uncomfortable, without becoming emotional about it. It's hard to imagine anyone in North Korea could have made something with this much perspective, without living in the West. But who knows. And it doesn't really matter who made it anyhow.
I think it would be even better if they removed the North Korea perspective from it, the few references to "our fearless leader" and the ending segment, just illustrate their own propaganda. |
