Samsung has been using the OPIc test for some time. The only thing new is totally phasing out the TOEIC L/R.

Unless other companies follow Samsung - a few have - many have not - this is a very small change.

And, it does not have to change the current hiring practices as it for the most part only affects a small group of adults who plan to apply to Samsung.

As most NEST in Korea teach children, it should not even muster a ripple.

On the other hand, the change on the horizon you should be keeping your eye out for is the NEAT Test. It is being developed by the Korean government and if it ever (certainly hasn't yet) replaces the English section of the Seungnueng (Korean College Placement Test), it will be a huge change.

As for college/university Instructors here in Korea, the OPIc should be a good opportunity to see Conversational English programs strengthened and more emphasis on expressing oneself, expressing opinions and acting out real-life situations.

If you are interested in an end of the world story, this is not it.

Yep. One of my final assessments is a formal interview, modeled after job, scholarship or university entrance interviews, where they have to talk about themselves, their achievements and discuss topical issues. It was nice to show them, with this news, how this type of assessment may become even more relevant in the future.
