From Psychology of Women Quarterly via Charles Murray:

http://www.aei-ideas.org/2012/11/the-bad-news-is-that-gentlemanly-behavior-makes-people-happy/

Quote:
Previous research suggests that benevolent sexism is an ideology that perpetuates gender inequality. But despite its negative consequences, benevolent sexism is a prevalent ideology that some even find attractive.

To better understand why women and men alike might be motivated to adopt benevolent sexism, the current study tested system justification theorys prediction that benevolent sexism might have a positive linkage to life satisfaction through increased diffuse system justification, or the sense that the status quo is fair.

A structural equation model revealed that benevolent sexism was positively associated with diffuse system justification within a sample of 274 college women and 111 college men.

Additionally, benevolent sexism was indirectly associated with life satisfaction for both women and men through diffuse system justification. In contrast, hostile sexism was not related to diffuse system justification or life satisfaction.

The results imply that although benevolent sexism perpetuates inequality at the structural level, it might offer some benefits at the personal level.

Thus, our findings reinforce the dangerous nature of benevolent sexism and emphasize the need for interventions to reduce its prevalence.

What kind of interventions do they propose?

Benevolent sexism is leftist code for chivalry or respect show to women by men. It makes both men and women happy.

I can't help wonder where the academic/intellectual elite of America plans to take this ship. What interventions will they propose? What would the ideal situation between men and women be? At what point is utopia achieved? Does it make sense for our society to direct billions of dollars into these insane asylums?

X is viewed positively by men, viewed positively by women, indirectly associated with life satisfaction for both, and has clear personal benefits. Let's eradicate X. That's almost cartoonishly malicious.

I see it as being kind of logical, from their perspective. They want both sexes to be 100% identical in all things. So when one sex does something differently and it makes both sexes happy, that severely imperils their goal.

It's like watching a quixotic mad scientist in action, railing against the very fiber of his own being.

This reminds me the time a few years back the P.
C. crowd railed against the use of a young woman from West AFrica being used as a model in and ad. Their complaint, she looked " too black' and that could lead to stereotyping. Makes brain hurt!

More reasons why we need to promote love. Obviously positive behaviors benefit people.
