They're still at it:

Report: Hagel Receiving Donations From 'Friends of Hamas'
Hagel has refused to release documents on sources of foreign funding because he is purportedly receiving donations from Friends of Hamas.
...
Astonishingly, however, senate sources told Breitbart News exclusively on Thursday that they have been informed that one of the reasons Hagel has refused to release the documents on his sources of foreign funding is that one of the names listed is a group purportedly called Friends of Hamas.
|
Anonymous "senate sources" are doing their part to try and keep the dream of a war on Iran alive.

Thomas E. Ricks, who is well-sourced in Democratic national security policy circles, says there's a "50-50" chance Chuck Hagel withdraws from consideration for the secretary of defense job. |
So it started with he hates Jews and then was he hates gays and now they're throwing this:
http://freebeacon.com/sexual-harassment-investigation-may-delay-hagel-vote/
Quote: |
According to Foreign Policy, the Senate Armed Services Committee is investigating a sexual harassment allegation by a former Hagel staffer. The unnamed staffer has been interviewed by the committee about an incident that took place in 2007.
The staffer, whose allegation was found credible by committee staff, does not involve Hagel directly. Instead, the investigation appears to center on whether Hagel knew of the incident and whether it was handled appropriately. |

I haven't posted lately on this thread because I believe Hagel is likely to be confirmed. More importantly, he's unlikely to make any true unconventional decisions or enact any bold policies while Secretary of Defense. The Empire will plod on, and we will remain all the poorer for such insubstantial grandstanding and partisan showmanship. |

The SNL skit was not aired. That's power. It made it to rehersal and was pulled at the last minute. Foxman is in the media calling names. |

It was boring and not very funny, that's probably why it wasn't aired. |

What's funny that this skit getting more attention than it otherwise would have by being put up online instead of just aired regularly is being held up as an example of the "power" of the Jewish Lobby. The Elders of Zion use their great power to get it taken off the air, but they're fine with NBC putting it up on the net where it's available on demand? |

Many of the execs at SNL are Jews.
Anti-Defamation League Blasts SNL
Quote: |
Foxman was far blunter in an interview with The Daily Beast, calling the sketch overdone and overdone and overdone. It focuses on the issue of Israel to such a ridiculous extreme that we do become concerned because there is a claim out there that Americas a tool of the Israelis. He added: It sort of reinforces the pernicious notion of Jewish control over this government ... that Israel controls the Senate.
The ADLs public opinion surveys indicate that 30 percent of the American people believe that American Jews are more loyal to Israel than the United States, Foxman said. Thats an anti-Semitic canardThe same percentage of people in the United States believe that the Jews killed Christ.
Foxmanwho in January raised concerns about Hagels past reference to the Jewish lobby and his positions on Israel and Iraninsisted: We have a sense of humor and we understand that classic satire is where you poke fun. But he suggested that SNLs Hagel sketch should never have been stagedHow did it get this far?nor should it have been posted on the Internet.
It makes no difference, he said, that Michaels and many of the shows writers and staffers happen to be Jewish. That doesnt excuse their insensitivity and their playing on stereotypes and selling stereotypes and forcing stereotypes, he said. |
(bold is my addition)
Yes, its totally insensitive of SNL to suggest that the Hagel hearings might have totally focused on Israel. |

Chuck Hagel was just confirmed as Secretary of Defense. If Hagel's confirmation being blocked would have signaled that political opposition to "the Lobby" is futile, then what does his successful confirmation signal? |

Conspiracy theorists will claim that they struck a backroom deal with Hagel. |

Stephen Steinlight (the former head of the AJC) wrote a letter to the JTA:
http://blogs.jta.org/letters/article/2013/02/26/3120566/hagel-and-anti-semitism
Quote: |
To the Editor:
Previous letters have correctly noted and decried ex-Senator Hagel's anti-Semitism but have focused on secondary concerns rather than the core of his mindset. To seize on this or that hostile comment regarding Israel or Israeli policy is besides the point, regardless of how off base they may be.
Hagel's ugly characterizations will find supporters, certainly among anti-Israel Jewish leftists posing as supporters of Israel.
The essence of Hagel's anti-Semitism is the sort expressed by such classics of paranoid anti-Semitica as "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" or the works of Henry Ford. Like them, Hagel believes a sinister pro-Israel/Jewish cabal acts like a puppeteer pulling the strings of members of an "intimidated Congress" and has turned the State Department (hardly noted for its philo-Semitism or support for Israel) into an "adjunct of the Israeli Foreign Ministry."
The campaign against Hagel's nomination failed precisely because no one -- none of the Jewish organizations that attacked him or his adversaries on the Senate Armed Services Committee -- had the moral courage to call Hagel what he is: a political anti-Semite. Lindsey Graham came closest, but was loath to pull the trigger.
That Senators Blumenthal, Levin and Schumer remained silent -- indeed Schumer played the smarmy role of his Jewish enabler -- is contemptible in the extreme.

I'll confess it, at least: like thousands of other typical Jewish kids of my generation, I was reared as a Jewish nationalist, even a quasi-separatist. Every summer for two months for 10 formative years during my childhood and adolescence I attended Jewish summer camp. There, each morning, I saluted a foreign flag, dressed in a uniform reflecting its colors, sang a foreign national anthem, learned a foreign language, learned foreign folk songs and dances, and was taught that Israel was the true homeland. Emigration to Israel was considered the highest virtue, and, like many other Jewish teens of my generation, I spent two summers working in Israel on a collective farm while I contemplated that possibility. More tacitly and subconsciously, I was taught the superiority of my people to the gentiles who had oppressed us. We were taught to view non-Jews as untrustworthy outsiders, people from whom sudden gusts of hatred might be anticipated, people less sensitive, intelligent, and moral than ourselves. |
Fk that guy.

Hagel reassures Jewish leaders on Iran, Israels edge
WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Chuck Hagel in a meeting with Jewish organizational leaders affirmed his commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and maintaining Israel's qualitative military edge. A four-sentence statement on Jan. 21 issued by the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations described the Jan. 18 meeting as "an important opportunity for a serious and thorough discussion of key issues of importance to all of us."
The statement, which also noted the presence at the meeting of Vice President Joe Biden as well as the leaders of the Anti-Defamation League, the American Jewish Committee and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, did not further elaborate. |
These Americans seem oddly obsessed with a foreign entho-state and causing wars.

Chuck Hagel and a sense of humor
In contrast to Bryan Caplan's advice to the GOP to make itself more popular by bending over backward to mollify the sensitivities of newcomers, the state of Israel, and Israel hobbyists in the U.S., follow a strategy of constant strident self-assertion.
As the Hagel debate showed, the essential problem for the GOP is this: You know how T. Boone Pickens has spent a couple of hundred million dollars building his alma mater, Oklahoma State, into a college football powerhouse? Does T. Boone Pickens want to negotiate peace on the football field, to sit down with Oklahoma's backers and call the whole game off? Of course not. What would be the fun of that? He wants to WIN.
Well, a lot of the big money behind the GOP (and behind the Democrats, too -- e.g., Hillary's main money man Haim Saban) feels toward Israel the way Pickens feels toward the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Pickens doesn't want peace on the football field, he wants victory. Similarly, much of the big money and the big media don't really want peace in the Middle East. They want their favorite country to win, to crush its foes, or, at minimum, for the game of nations to go on and on to give them something to talk about. It's their hobby. It's a perfectly natural male rooting urge.
But, here's the GOP's problem: You can't mention this. You can joke about Pickens's obsession with OK St. winning, but you can't joke about, say, Sheldon Adelson's obsession with his wife's native country crushing their foes.
Poor Chuck Hagel vaguely alluded skeptically to this massive phenomenon a couple of times over the last couple of decades, and got roasted alive for it to, as Voltaire would say, "encourage the others."
The problem is that what goes unsaid, eventually goes unthought, enstupefying the Party.
So, the first thing Republicans need is the freedom to joke about the neocons' infatuation with Israel.
Is that too much to ask?
At present, yes. |
That Obama picked CH and stuck with him is a good indication that he has no intention of invading/bombing Iran over the next 4 years. Very positive. However, the Lobby never sleeps:
http://www.timesofisrael.com/senators-pen-resolution-vowing-us-aid-if-israel-launches-war-of-self-defense/
Quote: |
A bipartisan group of senators on Thursday sponsored a resolution committing the US government to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and vowing that if Israel attacks Iran in self-defense, the United States will assist its ally.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D- NJ) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) are the chief sponsors of the measure, which specifies the US would provide military, diplomatic and economic support to Israel in case it launches a war of self-defense. |
Self defence. ha. The Poles have a saying about that.
The idea for the above came from AIPAC:
http://www.timesofisrael.com/aipac-agenda-omits-obama-netanyahu-and-the-palestinians/
Quote: |
WASHINGTON (JTA) Next weeks annual AIPAC policy conference in Washington may be as notable for what and whom is missing as whats planned.
For the first time in at least seven years, neither the US president nor the Israeli prime minister will attend. In addition, for the second year in a row, no mention of the Palestinians, negative or positive, appears on the conferences legislative agenda.
Instead, the agenda will focus on the Congress enacting legislation that would designate Israel a major strategic ally of the United States a relationship not enjoyed by any other nation and on facilitating a US green light should Israel decide to strike Iran. |
One of the more amusing moments of the Hagel circus was this:
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/02/chuck-hagel-and-hamas-fake-friends/
Quote: |
Why was Chuck Hagel skewered for taking money from an apparently nonexistent group?
This week, the dangers of the D.C. rumor mill were laid bare when New York Daily News reporter Dan Friedman posited that he was the unwitting source of a talking point used to bash Obamas embattled nominee to take over as secretary of defense.
Two weeks ago, Breitbart.com reported that Hagel had allegedly taken money from a group called Friends of Hamasa tidbit that played into largely-GOP-voiced concerns over Hagels opinions and record on Israel. The conservative news site attributed its reporting to unnamed Senate sources.
Theres just one problem: Friends of Hamas doesnt seem to exist.
