WASHINGTON - Truth is, retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf didn't care much for his popular "Stormin' Norman" nickname.
The seemingly no-nonsense Desert Storm commander's reputed temper with aides and subordinates supposedly earned him that rough-and-ready moniker. But others around the general, who died Thursday in Tampa, Fla., at age 78 of complications from pneumonia, knew him as a friendly, talkative and even jovial figure who preferred the somewhat milder sobriquet given by his troops: "The Bear."

I protested the first Gulf War in '91, so I guess I can't really say much positive about his most famous endeavour. I suppose he was just doing the job assigned to him as the commander of whatever, though this joke I found to be particularly inappropriate.

So you supported Iraq invading Kuwait, or just didn't think the USA should be involved? |

Like MacArthur with China (The Korean War) so too with Schwarzkopf both were held back from achieving total victory for which there is no substitute. |

Thee was no victory to obtain , we had done our job and liberated Kuwait, destabalizing Iraq would have invited the Iranians in. We sold Desert Storm as the liberation of Kuwait not the destruction of Iraq, that is why we had strong suport in much of the Arab world. An invasion and that support would have disappeared.
he was a good general who followed Powell's advice, heled devise the plan that led to the swift destruction of the occupying army.
Surprised there are those who supported Sadam's invasion ,looting and torture.
The general was well liked and he led an honorable life. |
