I was in Italy a few months ago, small towns at the base of the alps. The food was great but I actually found the pizza fairly dull. But it was definitely healthy compared to the American disaster which they also call pizza; thin crusts, no inch thick cheese load, no stuffed crust nightmares.

I am stunned what this post has ballooned into. I thought I asked a simple and innocent question. Apparently it needed three pages and name calling to answer. Yes!

"While Warning About Fat, U.S. Pushes Cheese Sales"

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/07/us/07fat.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

back on topic:

Unlikely that the new recipe will reach Korea, as it depends on the massive surplus of cheese in the US. The new recipe has 40% more cheese and the whole marketing campaign was paid for by the taxpayer via the USDA.

interesting read

The article is interesting in that 1) it's the same USA dietary non-sense as always, and 2) the same push by government and industry for the citizens to eat what's there, as opposed to what's healthy.

Elaboration on point 1) fat doesn't make you fat and saturated fat is not bad for your heart. There has never been any correlation between fat and getting fat, nor saturated fat and getting heart attacks. Grains/sugar makes you fat, and a dietary deficiency in fat gives you heart attacks. As proven by the USAs existence thru time.

Elaboration on point 2) grains were defined as the base of the failed US food pyramid because grains were what was there. The peasants need to eat their grains and corn syrup. This is done by changing the definition of whats healthy, to whats there. This involves propaganda (and telling nutritionists to shut up until they are sufficiently brain washed). The funny thing about this is they defined cheese as bad, but now they need to push it anyhow, cause its there. [facepalm]

Unless it's a special occasion, if I'm in the mood for pizza I'll suck it up get 59 or Pizza Maru. It ain't great, but dirt cheap. To me it's not worth 20-30K for an "upgrade" to the Hut or Dominos.

10 Magazine has a review of some pizza place in Gangnam- prices for a pie go up to almost 50K! What a joke, and why pizza in this country sucks.

Just as a side note make sure you never pay full price for a chain pizza in Korea. There's always coupons that can be downloaded, or flyers on the counter of the restaurant with 20% or more off. Make sure you go in first and grab one of these to use when ordering. I do agree Dominoes, PJ, PH etc in Korea are all massively overpriced.

actually pizza is really good for you. It has food from all the major food groups.

I try to eat pizza at least once a week so that I can get vegetables and dairy, protien and grains in one meal without cooking.

1-2 slices, maybe. The whole pizza? Definitely not.
