Interesting posts (last 2). I agree and know people who lead similar lives.

For others, family changes things and being a rolling stone and ending up in whatever country one stops in just becomes something that is not desirable.

We (wife and I) love to travel and we do travel at least once per year with our kids. We try different places every time we can. Still, we would not just try a place and hope it was ok because we have two kids and other considerations.

I too lived in other countries before getting to Korea. I spent a couple of years in France as a kid and lived in the US too. We are open to living in another country but the conditions would have to be right.

Anyway, my main post here was meant for people who wish to go back home and settle there for a stretch of time. It was meant to help people succeed and for them to avoid the trap that too many expats fall into.

On a personal basis, I miss Korea often and miss my friends and my family there. We talk often and visit once per year but I still miss the place. It took a while but I ended up feeling comfortable in Canada. At first it was tough, having been away for 11 years but since I hit the ground running with a job and a house that was paid for, that eased the transition.

I am curious, what exactly do you mean?

I mean I posted to share an experience so that people who do transition back home after a stay abroad may avoid some of the more common problems I noticed, experienced or saw with other returning expats.

The "traps" are covered in one of my previous posts. This is not an all inclusive list, just my experiences and I and quite sure lots of people could add to it (some did, some posted some very relevant things before my posts too).

This is the type of thread that can (hopefully) help people transition back home in a more seamless fashion.
