Here we go with paying more for transportation. When will the rates for taxis also go up?

The fees for a standard express bus from Seoul to Busan will be increased 600 won to 22,600 won ($21), while the price of tickets for the premium bus will be raised by 900 won to 33,700 won.
With intercity buses, the fares for the Seoul-Yeosu route will be raised from 24,400 won to 27,500 won and from 6,300 won to 6,700 won for the East Seoul-Chuncheon route.

| Not sure about other cities, but taxi rates here in Daegu went up Jan.1st, from 2,200 to 2,800 for basic fare. |

Oil prices haven't exactly been soaring. Be that as it may, it gets tougher and tougher on the average Kim. |

Good news for car manufacturers. It's getting tougher and tougher to live in Korea without a car.
Also good news for the bus and subway companies. Not so great for ridsrs. |

You may not feel the increases because they're taken out in such small bites but the overall impact is still there.
The one part that is objectionable is that raising fares is part of an overall effort by the Korean government to upgrade taxi services. But the taxi companies will only go along with increased fares. All other attempts to limit cabs, toughen up licensing procedures, train drivers, discipline bad drivers, and upgrade services overall are being strongly resisted by the taxi companies. They want the frosting without the cake and the government should hold their feet to the fire. |
