If you don't get an ARC within 90 days, does your E2 visa expire?
I'm wondering because I went to Korea with an E2 and left due to some issues. I told them I was leaving and haven't talked to them since. I would like to get another hagwon job in a few months time when things clear up.
Will I have a problem getting another E2?
I'm hoping after 90 days the E2 will be cancelled due to no ARC and the only thing I have to worry about is redoing to visa documents. I'm afraid I'll end up having to wait until the E2 expires in 13 months. |

If you are unregistered then your re-entry privilege would have expired at the 90 day mark. Your visa would have died on its expiry date.
(there are 3 dates on a visa - date of issue, date of expiry and length of sojourn).
IF you are American AND had the misfortune of having a 1 year multi-entry visa then you get to wait out the year before you can begin again.

Seems I fall into the unfortunate category.
Even though I am out of country, can my employer cancel the visa? |

Can they = sort of but not really. They can cancel their sponsorship which will have almost the the same effect (only immigration can cancel your visa/status of sojourn) but canceling the sponsorship may or may not allow you to seek another E2 before your visa expires - it is up to the immigration officer when your new application crosses their desk and the immigration officers typically (but not always) just say no.
Will they = unknown.
China is another option and they are looking now for the next term. Poke around and you should be able to find something that offers similar SAVINGS to what you would have made in Korea.

I've started to consider China.
If I went back to Korea and cancelled my E2 on the way out then, would it work? By work, meaning they'll cancel it at my request (while having no ARC) and I can apply for a new E2 within the next 6 months.
I have some ties there but I wouldn't to invest time and money if I wasn't positive that asking Immigration to cancel it when I left would definitely work. |

If your visa was not stamped canceled on the way out of Korea then the best I (or anyone else for that matter) can give you is a "maybe".
That is the best anyone can give you until you try it and either are or are not successful.

So basically even though I have a multi-entry visa, it can only be cancelled the first time I leave the country, not if I went back and tried to cancel it on the second time out?
Guess I'll have to give up on this one then. |

I am in a similar situation.
I am working here on an E-2 visa. It's a long story but some things happened and I couldn't get my ARC in before the 90 days (yes I'm an idiot, yes I messed up, I'm well aware of this). I am getting my medical tomorrow and should be able to go to immigration on Monday to get my ARC. But it will be about 105 days after the date of issue of the E-2 visa.
How certain is it that I will be kicked out of the country? Should I just leave? The medical is going to cost 100,000 won apparently. I'm really short on cash so if it's 100% certain that they're going to kick me out I might as well just not get the medical and book the nearest flight out. |
