This is part of an email I got for a part-time ESL job, in Canada. Just seeing if anyone has an idea what might help.

===========
"Before you come, I would ask you to prepare a lesson plan for the following situation:

You have been assigned a private class with a level 1 beginner student who is a lawyer for a mid-sized firm downtown. Classes will take place in the client's office. The textbooks are not ready for your first 60 minute class. What will you do?

During our interview, we will discuss your lesson plan. Moreover, I will ask you to teach ten minutes of this plan to me as if I were the student. You can choose which section to teach."
========

I'm not sure what would impress the interviewer. First we'd introduce ourselves and I'd figure out how much of a beginner the student is and what he hopes to learn. What might I bring to an hour long class with a low level student? Should I have a whole bunch of things ready to do, and find out about reading and writing ability, and see how important that is.. I'd think it would be important just to make the student feel comfortable, relaxed, give him some confidence, but an hour can be long with a beginner without something planned well. I suppose if I were the student I'd be nervous. I don't know what topics we could cover. Think I'd need to have some basic reading material, see if he can write sentences..

Thanks for any ideas. I don't know when this interview happens. Have to send back email for time to be set.
