There are major renovations being done at Sindorim Subway station in Seoul, which is a major transfer station between lines 1 and 2. We were there today, visting D Cube City, and the foot traffic is being rerouted in a way that is so disorganized it would have to be called pandemonium. Let me explain.
The platform on the outside is for the express trains to Cheonan and DongIncheon, Gwamyeong, and the express trains coming to Seoul from Cheonan and DongIncheonan. You can no longer use that platform to get into the station, transfer to another line, or exit the station. Instead you must walk all the way to the far end of the platform and walk up 4 flights of stairs, walk through a covered bridge, and then walk down more stairs to reach one of the other two platforms. Then you must walk all the way to the stairs at the other end of those platforms to enter the station.
Many people were surprised by the situation and many were upset. Now, there were some KORAIL employees standing around with flashlights directing the flow of foot traffic and answering questions, in Korean. I asked one employee what was happening and he told me "Many, many crazy", which was not very helpful but it did sum up the situation.
Be advised that the situation is not well-organized and that you may have to walk all the way around two platforms and up and down some stairs just to enter the station from that platform or to leave the station and go to the far platform from the station.
There are plans to hold a large St Patrick's Day event just outside this station on March 16th so you may want to give a heads up to those you invite to that event. It's confusing enough when people are sober. Thank you.
