Hi everyone,

I'm receiving my MA in May and won't be able to start teaching till about June 1st. I am really interested in getting a university position job and when I look now I see a lot of deadlines in late Feb to start March. Am I starting too early? When should I seriously start sending out applications?

There will be a few jobs for 2nd term starting in Sept so keep your eyes open.
The bulk of uni jobs are advertised in Nov/Dec for March starts.

The academic year in Korea runs from March to June and 2nd term from Sept to Dec. at the post secondary level.

So doing some backwards calculations (counting the months backwards is harder than I thought), the Sept starts should be advertised about May, June? Does that sound about right. I guess I should start getting a new FBI check soon.

A friend of a friend who has an MA, and is nearly finished with a Ph d. was told she was over-qualified for university positions here. She has years of uni-level experience at good schools and has done many KOTESOL presentations, etc.

My guess is that they just do not want to pay her much.

Thanks for the replies. These are universities where I would be applying for jobs as English teachers correct? I know some other people have been confused, but I am interested in teaching English and not some other discipline or specific subject.

Did she apply for an English Instructor position? If so, she may indeed be over qualified.

If she applied for an actual Professor position, then it is odd she was told she is over qualified.
