|
|
On Saturday I visited D Cube City which is a large shopping center just outside of Sindorim Station in Seoul. Sindorim Station is on lines 1 and 2. You can get to D Cube City from Exit 1 of Sindorim Station. It's just past the turnstiles and exit on the left.
We looked around at the shops and it was the same stores you can find in Myeong Dong. But there were no crowds. Talk about a pleasant shopping experience. Because it's relatively new there weren't very many people there. Plus it's all inside so it's air conditioned.
The best thing about D Cube City was the food. There are many sit down restaurants on the 5th and 6th floors including a Burger Hunter on the 5th floor, right next to the elevators. On B2 floor, though there's a great selection of restaurants including: a 24 hour McDonalds, Starbucks, Taco Bell, and Auntie Anne's pretzels with pepperoni pretzels and those cinnamon & brown sugar pretzels. Also there's a Ben's Cookies on B2.
You can get to B2 floor directly from outside Sindorim station by walking out exit 1 and walking to the left. Take the escalator down and you'll be facing McDonalds and Starbucks. The McDonalds is open 24 hours and the Starbucks opens at 7 am.

Are there EVER any malls, etc that are not the same stores anywhere here. Even the "worlds biggest department store" in Busan is just basically Coex spread out with a bunch of other shopping unrelated crap.
I wish it wasnt so, but ... |

Surely you jest. Next thing you'll be looking for a city that doesn't look like all the other cities. Or Koreans who don't dress like all other Koreans in their age/gender/class/income/educational attainment group.
Did you momentarily forget what country you're living in? It's OK, it happens. Have some delicious Taco Bell at D-Cube, the ONLY thing that makes it stand out, slightly, and you'll feel better. |

there's a pull and bear, which i don't think can be found elsewhere (that i know of).
they also have a muji (although i think there's one in times square as well).
anyhow, like the op said. it is way less crowded than your average mall / department store here. it also has all of the better brands that are typically found in myeongdong / department stores so you can shop much more comfortably. |

We were there yesterday shopping at H&M, Uniqlo, Bershka, and Accessorize. Two words to the wise- "Winter clearance."
Oh, and they now have a Gong Cha bubble tea shop in B-2.

How is that different from malls in America? Same stores, sometimes with different names, basically selling the same stuff. I'm sure other countries are similar. |

I went to D Cube in the summer last year (August '12), and I thought it was comparably crowded to other shopping centres. The Sheraton there is really nice; even nicer than many other 5 star hotels in Seoul, and that's saying something. |

I found it similar to the OP - good restaurants, not crowded, but pretty bland for shops. Next to it is another building that has some more variety of stuff - model shops and the like. Can't remember the name though. They are attached through the station. |

What does it say about life in Korea when you describe the eateries you listed as a "great selection"? |

Yes, it's an outstanding hotel. Highly recommended. Indeed, Trip Advisor lists it as the number 1 rated hotel in Seoul. |
