A friend is being offered a job there. Does anyone know anything about the town/area?

I worked there for a short time.

Bad:

It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
It's a properly-small village.

Good:

Buses to Seoul are regular and tolerably quick (a bit over an hour)
Depending on where you work (I was at the comprehensive high school) - it can be a nice, close-to-nature environment.
If you're into exploring the country / motorcycling, it's a good place to start off from.

I ended up living in Anseong proper and commuting to 20 minutes or so - and this is what I would suggest you do. Anseong has most of the conveniences you need with and, last I checked, group of foreigners that meet up fairly regularly.

If you're the party type, I'd give it a pass.

I lived near there and would pass through there sometimes on weekends.

It's a sanity robbing, alcoholic inducing ghost town. Unless you're already an insane drunk I'd keep looking.
