How would the war have ended differently?
Ok they are still technically at war so how would things be different if General MacArthur was not removed? |

lets see the Russians , east Germans Chinese Hungarians were fighting for the North. nato, Americans, Brits French, Canadians, Australian, filipinos, turks others. Close to a world war.
Macarthur wanted Taiwan to invade the mainland. Who knows. He really thought that he could overthrow the communists in China. he thought that that would solve alot ofproblems in the region. Yeah a democratic China and a unified Korea: crazy huh! Of course it would not have played out that way. It would have been a long drawn out bloodbath.
He was removed because he had been in contact with world leaders behind Trumans back. Making pledges he did not have the authority to give. |

Not the same way the Americans, British and Turks were fighting for the South. They weren't making the same commitments. If anything the Russians were afraid of showing that they were involving as much as actual pilots for the MIGs.

If the nukes and an invasion by Taiwan would have been successful then a thousand flowers would not have bloomed. If the nukes would have gotten rid of Mao, China would have lost fewer people.
Also consider the fact that the country that was liberated from Japan by the U.S. turned around and attacked the U.S. I also don't think nuking China would have started World War III, it would have ended the war for good. In many ways if the Japanese deserved to be nuked so did the Chinese. In fact the Chinese may have deserved more to be nuked than the Japanese. The Japanese were defeated, the Chinese were very much a serious threat.
Anyway that you look at it, it took a change in the attitude of the Americans that was blood thirsty to rid Seoul and South Korea of the Chinese and North Koreans. |

The East bloc did back off Stalin had been warned by Truman that he needed to be very careful that he would not hesitate to use nuclear weapons if Russia got too involved. Also Stalin was much more interesed in what was happening in Greece.
Macarthur had talked about a nuclear curtain to stop chinese troops from entering Korea.
Macarthur was very wrong about many things but not wrong about Mao and communism. Still he saw the best way to winning the war as taking out the main threat which was china. He was a soldier and this is how he saw the situation. Politicians have to look at a bigger picture and a long war in North Asia was not in anyones best interest.
Rebuilding Western europe and containing the russians was more of a priority. |

If MacArthur so deemed it necessary would he have used Japanese troops to fight the Chinese?
It is strange how two major wars could be fought within a decade of one another with a switch of who is considered a friend and who is the enemy. |
