Hey, I'm checking out flights to Canada and the cheapest flight I found is with a Chinese airline that has an hour and half stop-over in China. Do I need a Chinese visa for the lay-over?

Not if you are staying in the airport (don't actually "enter" China) or if the airport is Beijing or Shanghai (allowed up to 72 hours).

Even if not Beijing or Shangers....(not likely though) for an hour and a half in the airport it'll be cool. Why not take Ttom's suggestion though and use the 72 hour stopover....take a couple of days off in BJ or SH or wherever you're passing through. Both are great places to get off and stretch your legs for a couple of days after a stint in Korea.
