You can't tell the difference between all of them individually?
I'm a legally blind person and I can point 20 out of 20 of them in a lineup.

They're extremely similar. I expected them to be more distinct looking when I clicked on the thread, but the article is right. If I started working at a school where these women were my co-workers (which would be awesome) it would take a very long time to be able to tell them apart. I'm not sure I ever would. Similarly, if I was teaching them two or three times a week I don't think I would ever be able to tell them all apart. Not in one year, anyway. Probably not two either.

Ah, it seems it was mostly make up and photoshop that made them look so similar. They look pretty distinct in this picture

It's not necessarily the cosmetic surgery. Same makeup, same photographer, same pose, same Photoshop job...

If they are having plastic surgery done..kind of..sort of...cheating I think.
I thought the purpose of these pageants was to be wholesome, natural, etc..
reflects badly in my opinion of selection process...
You are representing your country after all...and are chosen as the best...but, win it by being the best naturally!
But I will say this...most k gals..without their makeup...are scary looking. With all the war paint on..they are knock outs. When they wash it off...hard to recognize who they are!
Even at the colleges where I have taught...I see these gals day in and day out...and once in awhile, I'll run into one and see them without all the makeup...and they say Hi to me and I don't recognize them! I feel bad for not recognizing them..but...they sure look different! Who are you I ask..."I'm in your class..don't you know me?"
but hey, it's about the money!!
What's really amazing...having taught some of these students in middle/high school...and then see them years later at the college...talk about coming of age and body changes!

I thought they'd got rid of them in most developed countries.

Most women in "developed countries" wouldn't exactly work in a pageant, unless it was a fat pageant...

Pagents are everywhere.

Also there's this thing called "modeling".

It is sometimes a revelation to see. Stars on TV can be the same. For years you could think some woman is really good-looking, but without all that effort, well, maybe not so much. Seems to be a lot of pressure to look good. Once I saw many uni girls on their way to class (Ehwa), not made up, nothing special. On the town all made up, who knows? When I went to China, at first I thought they just weren't as good looking as Korean women, but it was merely cosmetic I suppose. After a while it seemed better to know that you were seeing their normal, almost how they look when they get up in the morning, looks. Then maybe someone you know who looks fine without much effort does get made up all nice, and you might be thinking, wow. Just strange sometimes to think what a difference makeup, clothes, hairstyle etc can make.
