You will find that there are racists in Korea.

Not all Koreans are racist.
Not all racists are Korean.

A large part of the population does look down on people from countries with less developed economies and often treat them as 2nd class people. Migrant factory workers are an example of people who are often treated poorly.

There is racism (as well as ageism and gender bias) in hiring practices and there is no legal venue to seek recompense.

Of course there's racism.

I think it's worse when its directed at those you love for loving you rather than at yourself though.

But they are still hugely xenophobic or ethnocentric - not always out of malice but often just out of ignorance, or lack of awareness.

I think in day to day living a more important thing will be the smaller stuff that gets to lots of foreigners, the seemingly small things that just get on your nerves sometimes because they are so common. Someone on here might complain about what sounds like a trivial matter, but it's often something more than that. It will be the little things that keep happening again and again that bring people down because we get tired of them. Part of the deal of living abroad I guess, though there are good things as well in the bargain, and of course annoyances occur no matter where you live.

Yes, Korea is racist...to its bone. Saying "there are racists everywhere" is a stupid response. Would you say that Korea and (say) Canada are equally racist? Of course not, despite the fact that there are racist individuals in Canada. In Canada (and many other Western countries) racism if fought against in the schools, the press, the churches, labor unions, politics and a host of other arenas. This is emphatically not the case in Korea. Here those same institutions reinforce racist attitudes - even celebrate them.

So yes, Korea is racist. Only a fool can fail to see this.

I was about to respond, but then I looked out of my window and watched some dude get in a bright red VW Beetle that had a fricking windup attached to its rear and that completely destroyed my train of thought.

Yeah, like the second one, only it was a New Beetle.

At least it didn't have 'daisy rims' on it.
