It would be easy to blame this on race and culture, but the real culprit lies with those in power closing ranks with a good deal of misogyny thrown into the mix.
As we saw with Operation Yewtree and the abuse within the Catholic Church, if enough people in positions of power put the organisation before protecting innocents, abuse will flourish.
In this case it seems as though councillors, police officials and social workers were too concerned with protecting their own than with doing their duty.
I do not deny that the fear of being labelled racists in a part of the country that has strained race relations was obviously a factor. However, it wouldn't have mattered if there was any kind of accountability in what is essentially a community where those in power act with impunity.
It also seems as though time and again victims were dismissed and their accounts not taken seriously enough. It is shameful that victim-blaming and other misogynistic attitudes are held so widely within the police and the local government. |

Again with the 'White people' thing.
I understand why it is used in settler countries, but in a European context there is so much diversity amongst white people that it becomes meaningless. |

If the abuse were being carried out by fellow white councillors and police officers you might have a point, but it was by Pakistani men. They ignored evidence and chose to brush it under the carpet for fear of being called racist. Anti-racism and a commitment to diversity are mental illnesses that infect huge sections of the public services. And as seen with this case, working-class white people are bottom of the pile. |

White working class people are indeed at the bottom of the pile and class was certainly behind why the police worked actively against the victims.
What I meant by protecting their own and closing ranks was that in a town where people of Pakistani heritage form a powerful voting bloc, it was seen as impolitic by the police and Labour one party state there to make waves about the issue.
Of course the racist label was used to silence people, but consdering the very poisonous culture of racism in those areas it is not hard to see why it was so often used.
To use this case for spreading BNP ideas about Anti-racism and diversity being 'mental illnesses' is dishonest and shameful. I hate to break it to you, but any organisation that is unaccountable and puts itself before the welfare of victims is capable of this type of abuse.
Does Operation Yewtree mean that English people have a culture of child abuse? |

Unfortunately Rotheram seems to be only the tip of the iceberg, there seems to be similar incidences all over the UK.
Also there is no English culture, there is just British culture, we are one people. |

England has the worst PC culture in the world. You can't even call people on their shit anymore since everyone is some sort of minority.
On top of it all, this just gives fuel to both sides; people who want to demonize white 'majority' and those who want to blame immigrants for all of UK's problems. |
