The Stones are easily the best overall rock and roll band ever. The Beatles were great at what they did, but I'd buy a Stones album long before I'd buy a Beatles one.

Anyone who likes rock music but doesn't like the Rolling Stones has no musical taste whatsoever. Or has never sat down and listened to Stones album. They can start with 'Some Girls' as mentioned above. They are (ahem 'were') simply brilliant. Best overall rock and roll band. Period.

Music is kind of a subjective experience. I've listened to plenty of the Rolling Stones' work, and they never really struck me as anything particularly special. They may have been one of the most innovative rock bands in history, but they pretty much stopped innovating in the 70s when any number of - IMHO - far superior rock bands came along and did much more for the genre than the Stones ever did.

Paint It Black is in my trifecta of bad-ass songs referencing color, the other two being Whiter Shade of Pale and Kashmir. So yeah I am leaning toward The Stones here.

I never really got that into The Beatles. Just not really my cup of tea.

If it was 1975, I was there. Very Happy Also Rufus. Definately the Stones.

Saw the Stones in Jacksonville. Along with Sha Gha Khan and The J. Giles Band. I don't remember the Stones so much, but the other two made an impression.

but then again it was Florida, in the summer, and shroom season so who is really able to say?

prefer the Beatles but like them both, so a fence sitter

You could save a lot of time in your posts by just writing "I'm right, and if you don't agree, you're wrong."

Late 1968, Beggars Banquet & the White Album came out. It was an exciting time to be listening to new music. Why bother comparing? Both were cutting edge.

I like the Stones, but never enjoyed listening to the Beatles. Some of Harrison's individual work and with the Wilburys is ok.

Upon further reflection, Motown leaves both of them in the dust.

Yeah? Did you ever see them live? What do you think was their best album? Rolling Eyes

SR is like the kid who is always disturbing class. He wants a lot of attention and he goes about it by causing a disturbance. Usually, his 2 cents aren't really relevant to the topic or subject matter. He is just throwing erasers and pinching the kid next to him or making obnoxious comments about what the teacher or other students say. However, he does like to go up to the board and write. He will write on and on and on. I suppose he is just desperate for attention.
