Before I post this, I am going to say that I've read MANY posts about this topic. Some are older though (2010, 2011 posts) and as it is 2014, I'd like any current feedback.

I sent my first application 3 days ago to Reach 2 Teach. I already had an awful experience an didn't get a good vibe.

So I am going to apply to several other recruiting companies tomorrow. I understand the need to contact several recruiters.

Has anyone has luck within the last year with a specific recruiter. Any thoughts on Gone2Korea?

We are hoping to go to South Korea in Aug/Sept as a couple. Thanks.

Gone2Korea is pretty helpful but the recruiter tried to push me to apply for EPIK even though I made it clear that I wanted to work at a private school. Other then that, I would recommend giving Gone2Korea a shot.

Thank you!

Can I ask why you prefer private? I am thinking I am too late for the EPIK system to start Aug/Sept, but from what I read public gets more vacation time, often works less hours, and is less likely to have your school shut down?...

to OP

I applied for the EPIK last week. As there is no deadline for the application itself, I have knowledge from the Facebook page as well as en individual email saying they have received over 1000+ applications, and I won't even hear back from them regarding an interview for 3-4 weeks. You can still apply. I think that even if you apply you still have a chance. It also helps if you are certified TESOL/TEFL teacher with a certificate over 100+ hours, bachelors degree and have some relevant experience. Other than that, I am in the process of applying to the GEPIK which is Gyenggi-do area of South Korea.

Best of luck and God Bless

And also, on the application you are given the option to either be placed somewhere different or 'withdraw' if you do not get your first pick regarding teaching location. I have a sense that many people do not get hired because they simply will not go to somewhere random in South Korea if they do not get their first pick, so simply they are withdrawing themselves from the opportunity by putting that.

Keep in mind that South Korea is easily accessible from anywhere, and it only takes a few hours in any direction to get to where you want to go.

Bonnie from OK Recruiting found me my current position. She was really helpful and took the time to find a position that was right for me. I'm 6 months into my contract and love the school I signed with.

Anne from Say Kimchi Recruiting was also great. She found me a great job offer, but it fell through.

you realize this is someone working with Gone2Korea, correct?

1 post, only on this thread.

Be wary.

For recruiters, just use all of them and trust NONE of them. They will dick you over if they get the chance, but they can help set you up with schools.

Thank you. Yes, I have been trying to go back and look at everyone's post history once they post Smile

I will continue to reach out to multiple recruiters!

Recruiters are the used car salesmen of ESL.

Rule of thumb is if I feel that the recruiter is putting pressure on me to make a quick decision on a job that I'm lukewarm about, then I stop contacting him/her.

Thanks. That's exactly what I felt happened with Reach2Teach. I Googled the school, it had awful reviews and I expressed concern and they were demanding that I show up for an interview time, regardless of my availability or concerns. So we are moving along to another company...
