Down the Stretch, Who’s Looking Up
Baseball's Race to the Playoffs, Broken Down by Division

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/05/sports/baseball/baseballs-race-to-the-playoffs-broken-down-by-division.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&version=HpSumSmallMediaHigh&module=second-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&hp&_r=0

With about 50 games left for most teams and with first place carrying more weight since 2012, here’s a look at the prospects of Major League Baseball’s contenders.

I figured my hometown A's would be in first or second this late in the season, but best record in baseball? And acquiring Jon Lester? Yeah, didn't see either of those happening.

It will be very weird for me if it is an A's-Nats World Series.

(King) Felix Hernandez of Seattle has done something new. 16 straight starts with at least 7 innings pitched and 2 earned runs or fewer. Awesome season he is having. And of course in the NL there is Clayton Kershaw who may be the best pitcher of our lifetime. Saying a lot having seen Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Nolan Ryan, etc..

Yesterday the Blue Jays played 19 innings and Melky Cabrera got on base 8 times. First time that happened in over 40 years. And he never even scored once.

Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles both clinch their divisions. LA Angels soon to follow. The other divisions and wildcard spots will be decided closer to the end.

Anyone into the K league? The player quality is not as good as MLB but I prefer it due to lack of super spoiled brat overpaid MLB roid freaks. Oh yeah, and closing pitchers that grab their crotch when they get a blown save.

The MLB regular season ended today. Anybody who cares knows this of course. The wildcard games are Tuesday for AL (A's at KC) and Wed. for NL (Giants at Pirates).

Yeah, at that point they were looking pretty good...

Yeah, that game pretty much encapsulated the A's season. Guess I'll be rooting for the Nats now. Just as long as the Giants don't win (and they shouldn't, they're the worst team in the playoffs), I'll be happy.

Oh so you are one of the seven A's fans in existence? I love how your stadium has raw sewage floating around all over the place. As a Giants fan I must admit that in recent times our fan base has become increasingly douchie. Much of San Francisco has sadly.

There's been some great ballgames lately. Royals won 3 straight extra inning games. They have a chance to eliminate the Angels. Giants beat Nationals in 18 innings last night to go up 2-0. Tigers face elimination vs Orioles. And Cards and Dodgers are having quite a series too. Soon there will be just four teams.

I'm happy to see the American League teams are small market and small pay roll.

Somebody please help Korean baseball commentators! I won't say which network but there'a one keeps leaving out a syllable. He says:

San Fransco Giants and Kenza City Royals. Evil or Very Mad

Monday's expert-ing, it's a cultural thing so I don't care any more about that from Korean commentators or that ultra-princess commentary at Formula-1 GP, but at least get the name right! Laughing
