I may be heading to China (currently teaching in Seoul) soon to teach.

My plan: get my tourist visa processed in Seoul, head to China on a tourist visa and then find a job in China and do a visa run to Hong Kong to transfer to a working visa.

Is it fairly easy and prompt to get a tourist visa processed at the Chinese embassy in Seoul?

I just wonder how long it takes from anyones experience

Thanks in advance.

When I lived in Iksan, I had a travel agency take care of getting the visa for my trip to Shanghai, and it only took a few days, if I remember correctly(it was back in 2009).

If you are planning to work in China, I am assuming you have been reading the China forums, and thus know that the HK visa trip is not always a slam dunk, right? I got mine that way, just this past December, but it was not easy, and thankfully my employer used a visa service to help process all of the forms, and make sure I had everything I needed, including the medical.

Tourist visas to China take about 4 working days to process.

The fees vary depending on YOUR nationality.
35k for Brits
55k for Canadians
170k for Americans.
PLUS 10-20k for the handling and couriers fees (charged by the travel agent).
